First Gynaecologist Appointment

I'm sorry this is long..

So I had my first appointment on the 15th September. I was just expecting a chat but ended up having an internal ultrasound done, a biopsy of my cervix taken and the coil put in. I was not expecting it and felt forced to have the coil, the whole thing felt rushed (they were running 30 minutes behind) but I was willing to give it a go, anything to stop the pain. Almost a month in to having the coil and I've been bleeding non stop for 17 days now. I don't mind the bleeding, its the pain that accompanies it.. I'm constantly taking pain killers which I don't want to do. I got in contact with my GP and have an appointment with a nurse on Wednesday. I just felt dismissed tbh, I was diagnosed with Dysfunctional Menstrual Bleeding, I feel like no one is listening to me. My problem is not the bleeding (although its very heavy and the clots, sorry tmi, are quite big) it's the pain. Although bleeding is annoying it's the constant pain I'm in. I'd kind of get a break without the coil (I had a few days a month where I felt normal and then the pain would ramp up again) but I havent had a break for 17 days and I'm just tired and fed up. I'm sticking it out hoping it's my body adjusting but I'm just sick of hurting 😕 is there light at the end of the tunnel!? I'm just hoping for some help on Wednesday and hopefully another referral, I want a hysterectomy but I know they won't because I'm only 26.. I have 2 kids and am DONE, just want it out of me

Hi I had a similar thing I had waited over a year to see a gynaecologist when I finely got to see him he was a brute and abit rude. He wanted to do all his own Checks and find out himself what was wrong he dismissed all the other finding until he done his. I said I wasn't leaving his room until he agreed an mri as that sees everything I was told by a doctor and I got it along with a biopsy of the linnjng of my womb and yes a coil. The coil has worked abit it was fitted in July but I'm still having the odd bleed which I wasn't planning on. Will see how it goes as they said it can take 6 months to rest in. I have definitely got adenomyosis and the shock I have endometriosis which is attached to things inside. Now waiting for my follow up with gynaecologist so they can explain the findings and whether I will have hysterectomy as that will be what gets rid of adenomyosis but it won't ever get rid of endometriosis that may go with menopause which I'm already in early stages of. Like you it's the pain I just need to be pain free. Which I was told it could be menopause and low in hormones as I feel like I have arthritis. I hope this is a tiny bit helpful

She didnt take a biopsy of my womb it was of my cervix, I found out I was actually referred to her for heavy bleeding (the medical term of which I cannot remember how to spell but begins with M 😄) even though the nurse had said it sounds like endometriosis when she was referring me to the gynaecologist 🙄 maybe I should have demanded an MRI but honestly I thought my first appointment was going to be a chat, no one told me anything was actually going to happen when I got there 😄 thank you for your comment. I wanted the coil to stop things, I knew I'd be the person to bleed all the time 🤣

I thought the same no one explains what's going to happen in the appointment. I wasn't expecting an internal either. I hope you get things sorted and yes email doctors and gynaecologist secretary and push for mri. It's opened my eyes up to a lot of what's going on inside. I can make a decision now so when I get my next gynaecologist appointment I can be sure in what I want out of it.

I had the same experience with the coil. It really would help if they explained that this can happen initially. Apparently for some people it is great and it does settle down. Personally I had mine removed after about a month, for the same reasons as you and part of that time was spent getting someone to take it out.

This was quite a few years ago, my GP was reluctantly going to remove it, but couldn’t find the threads ( it had been cut too short). The Family Planning Clinic removed it for me with no problem.

It sounds like they did not spend a lot of time explaining what they were doing and why. I am guessing they may have suspected endometriosis and that's why you were given the coil. If things improved that would be thought to indicate you have endo. It doesn’t actually treat it but it can improve the symptoms. The fact that things have not improved for you doesn’t mean you don’t have endo.

I agree that a specialist ultrasound or MRI would help to show if you have endo and where. A laparoscopy with someone with a specialist interest in endo can also be used to identify and treat it.

You may have to push to get taken seriously unfortunately. Xx
