how to contact gynae

I'd been put on provera for 3 months more than 3 months ago now, and was told by my gynaecologist to stop taking it if I felt new breast lumps. I did, and stopped taking it as ordered. But I got really painful pelvic pain on my left side that lasted 4+ hours at least, I went to my GP about it and he sent a letter to the gynaecologist explaining that it's been past the 3 months and that I need to be seen again.

I've had no response from the hospital, and I tried ringing the number on the letter I was given but it's never been answered... just wondering how you're even supposed to contact gynaecology for anything? :/

Will the GP be able to push this or is it out of their control? Just sort of feel a bit forgotten at the moment and apprehensive especially since waiting times for surgery is so long and I'm nowhere near that yet?

Hi I would see if the hospital switchboard has another line they can but you through to speak to secretary. If no success all hospitals have a patient advice and liaison service (PALS) which they can support you in getting to who you need to speak to. I find GP can write letters but in the end they can’t make anything happen any faster.

100% agree with cheeks1, bypass your GP, go straight to hospital switchboard and ask for your consultants secretary. Leave a message and 9/10 I have had a quicker response that way.The number on the letter will just be to outpatients department and its pretty much out their hands they just book appointments. You can also jeep contacting admissions and ask where you are on the list, and if any cancellations come up to put you on that list.

But again, if you are getting nowhere with that route most definitely PALS as the alloted time has passed and symptoms have changed!

Best of luck 🙏🏻

Hi I was in a similar situation to you, managed to get through to the department receptionist (after a lot of being passed around on the phone) and they told me the consultant would contact me, but did not specify how and in the end they never did. In my case it was my GP who said I should contact the consultant, so definitely worth getting back to your GP and seeing if they can at least expedite some communication doctor to doctor (ideally with a phone call if it is urgent).
