Following emergency surgery 18 months ago for a burst ovarian abscess I am not waiting for surgery for endo as I have a couple of cysts which are staying out the largest one is endometria of 7cm and ablation at the same time. As I had a laparotomy my consultant has waited for further surgery as it’s going to be more tricky due to scarring and they were waiting recovery wise internally too. I had the Decaptyl injection for 6 months and life was bliss this ended December 2022 and now I am suffering so bad with pain lower back three causing muscle spasms waking up with hot rod pain in my hip along with nerve pain down my legs. It’s chronic. It’s been building and getting worse since I Came off the injection.
I get cocodomol and naproxen from my GP. But I don’t get enough cocodomol to last me the month when I have a flare up. Any help on what painrelief people use as I don’t want to ask for more atm as I don’t want something which will make me groggy and I don’t have adverse effects to codeine. I’m struggling a lot now more and more as time goes on I know the end is in sight when I finally have surgery but I don’t know when that will be. I was put o. The list in June and he said 4-6 months

There are quite a few options for your GP to prescribe. There are stronger opiates than cocodamol, such as tramadol, but they can leave your feeling dopey. Thee are other anti inflammatory meds other than naproxen, if you are not feeling that is helping. There are drugs for nerve pain such as gabapentin, pregabalin or antidepressants used to treat nerve pain such as amitryptyline.
You can use several of these different types in combination. If you are not taking the anti inflammatories all the time, it is a good idea to start a few days before your period to make them more effective.
It is worth going back to your GP and telling him/ her your pain is not controlled, and asking about other options. Everything has side-effects to some extent so it is a bit trial and error finding something that is effective that does not negatively affect you too much. Your GP could maybe contact Gynae (or you could do it yourself if you have a number to call) to discuss how your symptoms have worsened recently and ask if they have any advice as well).
