I went to the doctors last week as I had a pain in my stomach doctors were worried it was appendicitis long story short had to go the hospital and got diagnosed with endometrial cyst it’s not big enough or causing enough problems for surgery but it opened a can of worms.
I always thought I had endometriosis but never wanted it confirmed but I took myself to the doctors today and they have said I need a official diagnosis so have referred me for this.
I have a couple of questions how long does the referral take to confirm endometriosis?
As I have a endometrial cyst is this confirmation enough?
And because of the cyst does this mean it’s stage 3/4?
And finally what is everyone’s fertility like with endometriosis? I’m married and I’m worried that if I wait until I get a diagnosis this is going to be to late.
just want some answers from some real people, you don’t have to answer all questions just want some answers as I feel doctors are useless at answering them.

Hey Disneyaddict, I had my diagnosis in my home country actually. I went to see my mum's gynaecologist, she took one look at my endometrioma and she said very confidently there was nothing else it could be other than endometriosis.
When I was trying to get a diagnosis in the UK though it just seemed to take forever - so many tests (scans, bloods) and trips to doctors - and I don't know why. At every step doctors said it sounded like it was endo but they just needed to check a few more things. I get that they want to be sure and possibly avoid getting in trouble for a potential misdiagnosis but when doing my own research it didn't seem like there was anything else that could cause a chocolate cyst aside from endo. Plus, my symptoms matched those of endo.
In terms of stages, I think a cyst would mean it's at least stage 3 but I suppose they can only definitively say via surgery. I was never told a stage after my laparoscopy, only that it was severe, so maybe it was 4. I can't comment on fertility though as I'm not trying for a baby at the moment. But when I tried to get referral for my laparoscopy towards the end of the pandemic I didn't hear anything from the NHS for months so I ended up giving up my spot in the waiting list and going private. Wish you all the best!
Yes, an endometrioma is a diagnosis of endometriosis. However, if it was just diagnosed as an ovarian cyst, then there are other types of cysts.
No it does not imply and stage in the disease, but if the cyst has ruptured then the blood released will create adhesions and spread the endometriosis. The stage of the disease does not seem to be linked to the amount of pain and symptoms you have.
The fertility issue is difficult to answer as it does have an effect but many get pregnant.
You could read the book by Dian Shepperson Mills “Endometriosis: a key to healing and fertility through nutrition”. She has helped hundreds of women with endometriosis to get pregnant.
