hello, that’s good you have a date and that’s so quick too.

If you aren’t mentally prepared you are well within your rights to ask for a different date which would give you more time, I was told that if I was ever to get a hysterectomy I would be offered counselling first. Maybe that’s something you could look into?

It’s a big operation & you have to be 100% sure that this is what you want.

I had endometrial ablation and it worked for a while, I was putting all my hopes on it working for the rest of my life but now at the point where it’s not. It’s heartbreaking for us all having to go through this day in and day out.

Sending a hug as I know it’s hard 💜

it’s so upsetting isn’t it. My hormones are completely all over the show: I have awful anxiety so I’m not sure whatever date it’ll be, I’ll never feel comfortable.. I think it’s best I get it out the way. I no mentally I want it. I don’t want anymore children I had 3 luckily when I was younger. I’m 34 now and ready to give it up officially. Therapy maybe good idea I’ll look into it. Do you think you will end up having the hysterectomy?? 💕

hey I know what you mean, I am so hormonal, it’s awful 😢 I am trying to avoid a hysterectomy as I am just not ready for that mentally and physically. I have been through so much, I don’t think I would cope with that right now. The first time I got my laparoscopy I was so nervous and like you say it doesn’t matter the date, you are still in the same state 😂🤣if we don’t laugh we would cry 😢

Ugh just relying is making ma bellY go into butterfly mode 😂 xxx

Having had dates for my hysterectomy I know exactly how you feel. I had two dates cancelled and went through so many ups and downs mentally leading up to them. I finally have prepared myself mentally. Physically I have been preparing for a year. If you are certain you want a hysterectomy mentally you will get there. Maybe ask for a later date if your not ready yet. I have another date for the 23rd July which I can now say I am completely prepared for. Its a major operation and a lot of rest needed after with a lot of hormone changes. to deal with. Best of luck to you. x

I think it's totally normal to feel panicked at first, it's a big thing emotionally and physically. If it helps, it's the best thing I ever did. I'm pain free now after 15 years of hell with endo. Remember why you're doing it x

this made me feel relieved it’s what Iv wanted to read, just how amazing life can be again after!! The unknown is truly petrifying. I hope and pray I wake with the same experience as you! And it helps my life change for the best: thanks for ur reply x

It has been utterly life changing for me. It took about 18 months to get my HRT right but I had so much energy at that point. Just keep experimenting until it feels right. Also take it easy during your recovery. I went back to work too soon. I should have milked it! I never had any pain again. I'm sure it will be worth it x

oh wow this makes me feel so hopeful at a time I really need it so thank you!

My heart just races even thinking of it. I know it’s the best thing I’ll ever do and my only real shot at being happy/healthy again. Thanks for your words 💕

I had mine last January and it’s the best thing I ever did! In my experience the surgery was nothing like the pain endo and adeno caused. You just have to be prepared to rest afterwards. Best of luck! X

thank you so much, second person to make me feel some relief, get myself so worked up wondering if it’s gonna even help or what if I’m in more pain. So so scary. I just want it all over, to wake up and have some energy again 💕 sending love. Thank you xx

Hey!Mine is next week, and like you it's what I've been asking for!

I'm starting to get a little anxious but that's normal, it's a big procedure and a new change on the other side.

I have spoken to so many people who in their 30s also had a hysterectomy and they have all said the same, it was the best decision they all made! Some found it a little tough getting the hrt right on the other side but once sorted they have all said it's been the best. So I'm really excited. I've had a 'dry run' (no pun intended🤣) on zoladex, which has put me into a medical menopause and it has made the biggest difference ever, I've had a life back since the end of last year......so I'm looking forward to post recovery to get my life back and feel well!

In my mind when it starts wondering off, I just say, if it doesn't all go to plan then it's nothing I can't handle, I've come this far, I am used to pivoting, this will just be another pivot.....but let's hope for the best outcome!

I hope you are able to mentally get there too. Good luck! Xx

awwww I feel your panic and pain in your message. I can completely understand because you probably expected it to be quite a while on the waiting list. Take a deep breath, make a cup of tea and then start to write a list of all the reasons why you want this. Then write a list of anything you need to organise before the surgery. Get all the thoughts out of your head and onto paper it does help. If you feel like it’s way to soon you could speak to them and ask for it to be pushed back a few weeks to give you more time to get your mind around it but if is something you’ve been wanting a long time then maybe this is date is meant to be and once you’ve got your mind around it it’ll be a good thing. Sending a big hug! X

Aww, I really feel for you. Surgeries are always a worry and this is not a small one. But so happy for you that you managed to get on the list, really difficult to get a space at the moment and at least you are doing all you can to get better! That's all we can do, give it a chance and all fingers crossed it will work for you. Is it to help with endo or do you have adeno too? I am only asking because I am considering whether to have another laparoscopy to clear endo or a full on hysterectomy but I head that it may not help and the tissue may continue to grow! Other comments here said that it helped. So confused! I am over 40 now so probably should get on with it anyway 😂

Littleone88 profile image
Littleone88 in reply to Banan

I have both conditions; but he did say he can’t say for certain till it’s out and tested for adenomyosis.

They’re going to clear any endo and then full hysterectomy minus 1 ovary, everyone situ are different aren’t they. So guess they go by person and person everyone’s results will vary. It’s so so worrying but if it’s gonna be done one day or another it’s defo better to get it out the way. Wish this disease didn’t exist 😔

Good luck for your op. I'm having full hysterectomy and Bilateral salpingo oophorectomy on Tuesday, honestly absolutely terrified. Mine is for different reasons, I have a large endometrioma with 2 solid components and they don't know if its cancer, which is why mdt said I should have everything out and it's open abdo surgery 😨 but my womb also has a failed ablation which has caused scar tissue to run through it. They said after surgery I will immediately go into menopause but that I'll need combined HRT even though womb removed as I carnt have estrogen only HRT due to endometriosis, I'm really worried about the whole hormone replacement thing and how I'll be effected but guess I just need to get on with it...I don't have any other choice

awww bless this is so scary to just read let alone go thru it I’m so sorry this has happened. Fingers crossed non of it is cancer. And after this u will be pain free. It sucks are only choices are such scary ones to make. Do you mind me asking how old you are? I’m 34, already had surgery twice and both times I was just as anxious lol

Booty42 in reply to Littleone88

Thanks for your reply. I'm 46 so a lot older than you but I'm not even perimenopause yet. It's all happened very quickly from seeing gp 11 weeks ago to having app date for hysterectomy, I've had literally no time to digest but I carnt delay unfortunately due to risks involved. I've had no surgery previously for endo. My heavy bleeding and pain was controlled with Mirena coil, ablation and mefanamic acid. My endo was only diagnosed in the last few months they have said I have severe endo and looks like adenomyosis but carnt be confirmed till they open me up.

I have a 2 week wait after hysterectomy for biopsy results of cyst and they are doing an omental biopsy as well.

I Hope you recover well from yours and you can look forward to a pain free life, fingers crossed xx

Marcia71 in reply to Booty42

sorry to hear about your struggles. If you have severe endo just wanted to be sure your op is at a bsge centre so they can deal with endo at same time as hysterectomy. Otherwise I worry you'll be left in an even worse place. Hugs xx

Booty42 profile image
Booty42 in reply to Marcia71

Hi Thanks for your reply.Unfortunately it's not at a bsge centre, the priority in my case is to remove everything now and deal with endo later, this is because they are not sure yet if I have cancer so they need to act quickly as ovarian cancer can go from stage 1 to 4 in less than a year and they need to eliminate the risk of that happening.

I completely understand the need for a bsge centre but that takes time and I don't have time.

It sounds like you had a journey, really positive to read that you are now pain free. Did you have HRT following hysterectomy as I am concerned that this will feed remnants of endo to cause growth but I also want to protect my bones etc that comes with HRT. It's a bit of a double ended sword and the choices we have to make seem to be to a negative effect on something.

Sorry to hear about the cancer risk and really hope it isn't that - hopefully this will be reassuring - but I've heard of many people who have had suspected ovarian cancer and turned out to be endo, and mostly due to endometrioma's so hopefully that maybe your story too as endeomtrioma's are something treatable .

As to HRT - yes I am on HRT and it is combined. So both oestrogen and progesterone - I use the oestrogen spray and take a utrogestan tablet each day. When I had my hyster as done by a general gyane he told me I needed just oestrogen as no longer had a uterus and any endo would just die off! So yes you can have HRT but make sure it's combined and talk to someone knowlegeable about endo to get this right. It is now in ESHRE guidance that HRT must be combined for anyone who had endo, even if they've had a hysterectomy. good luck with the op.

Booty42 profile image
Booty42 in reply to Marcia71

ThankyouYes my consultant has already suggested combined HRT due to endo they have said I cannot have oestrogen only so I guess that sounds like they know what they are talking about hopefully.

Thanks again

Just make sure all endo is thoroughly excised at time of op. I didn't know enough about endo when I had my hysterectomy (& ovaries out) and as endo was left behind as done by general gynae, it just kept growing and caused me awful issues. I've had 3 more ops since hyster and only final one got all the deep infiltrating endo as well as all other surface endo out so am finally out of pain - 8 years after my hyster.
