Surgery and Fertility

Hi,

I was diagnosed on lap in 2019 and recent MRI shows DIE Endo in multiple places / organs. I’ve decided to pay for private lap as I’ve been told my NHS lap will be 2 years time due to waiting times and with pain management surgery is my final straw. I feel awful that I’m paying private but know for my own mental health it’s appropriate but I’ve also been told I will be reffered to IVF clinic if I’m not pregnant in 9 months which they believe I’m more infertile than fertile. This is heart breaking for me and my partner and we’ve not taken it well. Can I ask if anyone else got this information and how they handled it / dealt with it. As times gone on I go along with that it’s the cards I’ve been dealt with but it does play on my mind a lot, especially at night

Hi Chloe - the way you’re feeling is totally normal, being given that news can be totally heart wrenching. But you're doing all the right things to stay in control of the situation.

You can still fall pregnant naturally with endo, lots of women do - so try and hold on to some hope, and give the next 9months your best shot. If you do go down the ivf route, go in with an open mind and no expectations. Make sure you have support too, whether it’s through friends, family or a counsellor - your mental health is so important and ivf can be a roller coaster of uncertainty.

I know how it’s feels to lay awake at night worrying about the what ifs, but all we can do is control the controllables and hold onto a little hope, as women with endo do fall pregnant, whether naturally or assisted. If you have a desire to be a mum, you’ll get there - but the journey may not be as expected.

good luck xxx

hi Chloe, just came across your post whilst search for ivf. I’m in very similar situation to you, I also paid for two laps and endo removal. We were given a 6 month window to try naturally and then ivf. I’m now at the end of my 6 month window and unfortunately in bad flare which they’ve now suggested I should expedite the ivf plans. I’ve not really got any words of wisdom other than to say you’re not on your own. It’s really rubbish but I’m doing my best to try and stay calm, I’m researching ivf now so I have a better understanding of what is coming up (that helps me feel More in. Control) and I love the calm and audible app for those night time thoughts that won’t shift when you need to go back to sleep. Hope you’re getting on okay! X
