Hi,
I am currently on Dienogest. I have been on it approximately 10 weeks now and will ask at 12 weeks if I can continue it. Told have to wait 3 months to see the full effect. I was prior in induced menopause with tibilone while awaiting MDT surgery ( stage 4 with a rectovaginaal nodule) but was having numerous side effects.
I find it is controlling pain to some extent. My periods on it have been far less painful ( just take ibuprofen or naproxen rather then resorting to multi drug or opiate). I haven't had any sciatic signs on my period (but early days). I generally have no severe bone ache like induced menopause.
At the start I did get some headaches ( controlled with otc pain releif) and now have some very mild acne on my cheek. Other then that I have been quite lucky.
I occasionally have had some more stabbing like pain ( but again not as bad as when not on it or on pop). I do have bloating/ endo belly still but I would assume that's more from the rectovaginal nodule since I can't defecate without laxatives because of it etc. No hormonal drug has helped the gastrointestinal signs.
Compared to the pop in my case I prefer it. On POP I was bleeding all the time. I have had some spotting on dienogest but far less. Remember dienogest is not a contraceptive though.
I was told by the endo specialist that dienogest sits somewhere between pop and induced menopause. More women find induced menopause effective but more side effects. In my case so far I would prefer to stay on dienogest before surgery. The other option was to try another brand of induced menopause but I personally found I was still in pain and couldn't justify the side effects.
Everyone is different though so generally speaking they will likely offer you 3 months to see how you get on to make up your own mind.

Hi
I am on dienogest since July 2023. My product is called Visanne (I live in Switzerland, don‘t know if they sell this product in the UK). It has been a great help for me so far and I feel much better. I don‘t have any period on it and I am completely pain-free. This is a huge relief for me. Side effects: I did have some joint pain for a couple of months (and sometimes still do, if I don’t stretch long enough after running or hiking). I occasionally feel a bit low and notice a lack of energy in general. For me, TCM /accupuncture has been very helpful to balance these side effects, as well as yoga and meditation for my mental health and eating healthy for most of the time (less sugar, less wheat, less dairy). The combination of dienogest and a balanced lifestyle works very well for me, but I think it‘s different for every person and you have to give yourself some time to adjust to it. At the beginning I was very tired but this got better after about 1-2 months. My friend also took it for half a year, she noticed no side effects at all. Everyone is different though. Wishing you the best!

Hi JAJ27,
I've read so many positive accounts from women who have taken Dienogest and I myself, am also one of those!
Like with all medication, you have to give yourself time to adapt. Sadly, I feel that a lot of women give up too easily as soon as they experience any negative side effects.
I'm 6 months in to taking Dienogest and I can only say I wish I had taken it sooner! I have no side effects currently, yes there were some to begin with (I was headachy, my sleep was affected) but I persevered and I haven't felt better.
You never know until you try and I hope you find success, whatever your method ✌️
