Hi ladies, can endometrioma and any cysts be missed on a MRI? Can endometriosis be severe (up to your lungs) without having cysts or the doctors I've been to are so much incompetent and couldn't look properly on the MRI (this is not new to me)? Could you please share your experience about that and if they could see endometrioma/cysts prior to your surgery? Thank you!!!💕💕💕

Endometrioma, cysts help
To be fair to the Dr's looking for endo is like looking for a needle in a hay stack sometimes.I've looked up a page from lindl on here about the different endo cysts and all they entail and the images are of black holes beside grey muscle fibres in mri in certain displays.
Other things I'd say are more obvious like ovaries and the uterus being in the wrong place, but even that gets over looked as a 'false pelvic floor'. We are fooked over all the time.
I've got an enormous white shadow from my left breast to the bottom of my diaphragm that matches my pain on my mri. And it's not on my right side in a matching pattern. But there's no mention of what it could be in my notes. I'm guessing it's scar tissue from 2 really bad chest infections as a young child. It just happens to never have shown on my xrays in 2019.
Others on here may tell you mri only gives surgeons an idea of where to look for deep infiltrating endo and if you need a bowel surgeon.
hi, in answer to your Q about having a cyst b4 mri, I can confirm I had a transvaginal scan in 2020, where my consultant ordered an mri because she couldn’t see my right ovary. Then covid happened and it wasn’t until earlier this year I went in for the Mri they used the colour contrast during. before I got my results I searched the web for images showing cysts and endometrioma’s which was very useful. I watched a few videos on you tube too with commentary-mostly for medical students so was quite complicated but worth it when I was talked through my mri results and images. I hope this helps.
