Laparoscopy done Dated 04 May 2023 with misunderstanding

Hello everyone

I am still in hospital had a laparoscopic yesterday and under observation for 24 hours.

Sad part is it was a long wait for nearly 2 years & I am already been diagnosed in 2016 for stage 4 endometriosis via laparoscopic and in all these years suffered pain nothing else life is nowhere same as it use to be, my yesterday surgery journey:

Reached hospital leaving my 1 and half year baby with family.

thinking they will do laparoscopic and remove endometriosis so I can have relief for few months from endometriosis but unfortunately no endo specialist was there and they said we will not treat endometriosis only going to check if you have endometriosis and this line put me in tears but still I said yes because I was waiting from 2 years just to get confirmation of endometriosis sufferer.

Now from yesterday night till this morning I am having no sleep at all and gone into depression that after all that painful procedure I am still in pain and will be battling with endometriosis and they will take don’t know how long again to give me endo specialist appointment.

Anyone had same situation like me please do give your opinion.

🤲

Can I ask where in the UK you are located as treatment pathways vary.

Wakefield has an endo centre too. Dr kremer and Dr oboh. I'm sorry for your experience. I've not had a great experience from pinderfields recently for other issues.

Hinark,

That is absolutely shocking. If you were already diagnosed as having endo they absolutley did not need to do a lap to diagnose you. You should not have had an operation at all unless it was to remove the endo. Each abdominal operation you have creates scarring and adhesions and seeing as you already had a diagnosis this should not have been done.

In addition as apatient you should have seen your surgeon before th top and had a pre op with a nurse, they should have told you exactly what the op was for , why you were having it and exactly what they were going to do, this should all have been explained to you before the date was booked for the op. Did they do this?

No patient should ever go in for a procedure not knowing or understanding what the procedure is for and if this is the case I think you need to see a solicitor and take legal action.

If they were doing a diagnostic lap only (which makes no sense as you already had a diagnosis) you should have been told this.

For now you must be extremely upset, but don't panic the pain will reduce hugely in about three days especially the neck pain form the gas, it will go. But you will need to really rest and have help with your baby you cannot pick anything heavy up for a few weeks and that will include baby. You just need to take things easy for that time period and take painkillers for a few weeks after 6 weeks you should be pretty healed and you can get back to normal.

The pain will improve quickly. In the meantime contact a medical negligence specialist lawyer, complain to PALS and the GMC. But my first port of call would be a lawyer, if they have operated on you with no pre op, no explanation of what is going to happen and for no good reason you might get a generous pay out.

I really hope you will feel much better and be over the op in a very short time and I'm so sorry that you have been treated like this.
