MRI scan

Hello, I posted a while back re symptoms consistent with endometriosis and difficulty getting a diagnosis. I recently had a gynae appointment (NHS), mentioned that I'm still having symptoms and asked if an MRI or other scan would help to identify the cause of said symptoms, but the response was that this wouldn't be necessary, as nothing had changed drastically (although I did say things had been gradually worsening over the years).

For peace of mind, I'm considering getting a private MRI, but my question is, would the radiologist alone be likely to pick up any possible areas of endo/abnormalities? Or would I need to see a private Gynae, who's experienced in diagnosing endo, then request an MRI through them?

I am unable to have a laproscopy as BMI is currently not in range, but even so, I'd still like to try to get a clearer picture of what's going on.

Can I ask where you are in the UK as the specialist radiologists in endo tend to be associated with endo centres.

I'm in London, I'm thinking there must be a few (hopefully good!) specialist centres in the London area?

The recognised expert for endo MRI in London is Priya Narayanan who is at the UCLH BSGE centre. I'm not sure if you can book a MRI privately - might have to book an appointment with one of the centre's surgeons and get referred. But her details are below so you can always try direct first.

If you look on the BSGE Insta page there is a video with her talking about MRI detection of endo which is brilliant. It was supposed to be recorded but not sure how to access that.

MRI will only pick up deep disease so not sure if you have symptoms of that.

(Moderators - this isn't a personal recommendation but a recognised MRI expert at an endo centre).

Thank you for all the info Lindle, I will have a look into this, see what options are available.

I'm not sure if I have symptoms of deep infiltrating endo, as the (lower left) pain was at it's worst a few years ago and doesn't seem to have progressed (thankfully) - but other symptoms (mild pain, digestive/bowel and bladder issues) have been ongoing and bothersome.

I do have a subserosal fibroid, but that's on the right side. POP or implant was advised (for the other symptoms), but I had concerns about side effects and would prefer to have a better idea of what I'm dealing with before starting treatment.

Not what you're looking for?
