I'm awaiting a lap, but I have no idea of how long I will wait. I was originally told I had fibroids in Oct 22, causing my pelvic pain and associated issues. My scans, however, were clear. The consultant said she could feel 2 on exam.
I have seen a private consultant who has disagreed with this and says fibroids are not causing the issue.
I was in such a state at the appointment, so didn't get out what I wanted to say.
I'm now concerned as not sure who to believe. Is it worth me paying private for an mri/scans? What is the likely hold that endo will show? I live near Brighton, if you have any recommendations.
Many thanks xx

From my experience you need someone who is trained to find endo/adeno to look at the scan results, otherwise it's likely to be missed. Unfortunately there aren't many who can, but there is an ultrasound clinic in London with a couple of radiographers who are trained. I don't think I can name it here as per rules, but it's on Harley Street. Not cheap though obviously. Good luck!
The NHS rules are you can ask for a second opinion. I’d do that as it’s free. See what comes back.
I don’t know about MRI for fibroids, if they can be seen easily? I had a hysteroscopy as they can see Fibroids with that.
You could contact Endometriosis.UK to ask what type of surgeon you need for fibroids. For Endo you need a BGSE hospital and a surgeon who is listed on that website. It means they are skilled and experienced with hospital being a specialist centre.
I wouldn’t pay for an MRI at all. Nothing showed up on my MRI but the sugeon told me I have Endo all over. (Again don’t know for fibroids).
Hope that’s clear? So sorry this is really scary for you x
Hi if you can, ask to be referred to an Endometriosis Specialist Centre, where they have better diagnostic machinery and are trained specifically in spotting Endo. In my experience the non-specialist hospitals I went to, never picked up on my Endo whilst the specialist centre did. I was fully diagnosed via laparoscopy. It can be a long hard wait to get a proper diagnosis. Good luck!
Thanks so much for your replies. I will just have to wait for the lap, I think. My parents want to pay but I don't want them spending money if it isn't going to really help xx
