What to expect at my next appointment?

So I had my first appointment with a nurse at my GP surgery yesterday and hallelujah someone's actually listened to me! She has referred me to gynaecology. She's told me they might do a scan but will probably tell me to go on the coil as the only treatment I'll be offered is hormonal because of my age (26) I might want more kids (I don't, I am doneee honestly 😅🤣) I have 2 and they are PLENTY 😅. What's everyone's experience on the coil? What's it like to have put in? Is the only treatment hormonal, do I not get to have anymore options just because I'm 26? What else can I expect at my gynaecologist appointment?

Hi, I can't really tell you what to expect as every appointment is different. It's helpful to write down dates of when you've had pain as they like to see if it is cyclical. As for the coil from my experience I've had two and about to have my 3rd. The first one I felt was fitted wrong and caused me a lot of pain. I had it removed after a month. My second one was fitted during my lap and it's been great. No periods less pain. Its due to be changed and I have gone private to have it fitted during another lap as im worried some thing at have grown round it. Good luck and hope you don't have to wait too long.

Hi there,

I had the Mirena implanted in Feb 2022 at my local hospital as it was impossible to get an appointment at the sexual health clinic. They found polyps in my uterus so had to ask a consultant to remove the polyps before implanting the Mirena.

I opted to have this procedure without GA and it was a bit painful. I experienced light bleeding for almost four months & now experience very light monthly periods. In my case, the Mirena has been very helpful.

I had surgery a few weeks ago to remove a cyst, my right tube & deep endo from my pelvis.

I am 43 & I was asked whether I wanted more children. I also have adenomyosis so was offered a hysterectomy.

The nurses are very helpful and will listen to what you want. If you push for surgery or any other option, they will write it up in your notes.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do! xx

Hopefully you’ll be offered an MRI and go from there.

There is good info on the Endo UK website about consultations and a pain diary. Keep notes between now and appointment so you don’t miss anything out. Hope you aren’t waiting long.

Thank you for your comments 😊I'll start keeping a pain diary, Im expecting to wait a while for my appointment anyway as I can imagine the backlog! I'll do my research on the coil and other forms of what can help and decide where to go from there and discuss any concerns at my appointment whenever that is. I'll take a look at the UK Endo website as well Thank you 🙂

Hi Bsjrnrdr141620 I am so glad you feel you have been heard. Finally! In answer to your question, I only tried the coil once and for me it did not have the desired affect, butRacheywoo has had both ends of the spectrum.

Fizzypoptastic you've had a lot going on, without much of a break, how do you stay so focused?

Moon_maiden I was always very reluctant to commiting to a pain diary as I felt like this was too much on top of what I was already doing and feeling, but, it was invaluable. I kept it really informal, a wee note book in my 'messy' draw in the kitchen.

On a final note from me, as Moon_maiden said, check out endometriosis-uk.org/

Thank you for your post.

I used an app, but no one was ever interested. I hope drs are getting better at asking with all the publicity going on.
