Hey everyone I follow your posts and appreciate your advice so back story is officially diagnosed with endometriosis thats spread to bladder and rectum since 2018 but recently bloodwork keeps showing estrogen dominant. No idea what that means or how it affects endometriosis. I'm also hypothyroid and coeliac. Have had 2 bouts of decapeptyl injections and hrt and the mini pill and none worked for me. Had every side effects going. So just told to take ponstan (mefenemic acid) 500mg 3 times Daily on period. I'm constantly exhausted no matter how much or little I sleep and as you all know the pain is just sudden and fierce and debilitating. Can't get my head round the sudden unexpected shooting pain in the bellybutton, like red hot needles suddenly being pushed in and out of my bellybutton.

Oestrogen and progesterone work together to control the menstrual cycle. Sometimes oestrogen has to be dominant, such as primarily in the first half of the cycle prior to ovulation, as high levels are required to make it happen. So oestrogen dominance is normal at that time. This is called 'unopposed' oestrogen, that is, not balanced by progesterone. It is unopposed oestrogen that drives endo.

But the two hormones can be out of balance at other times and oestrogen dominance can be a feature of endo so it's not surprising to have it.

But are you being treated in a specialist endo centre as you should be with what sounds like severe endo?

Thank you for your reply and help. Unfortunately I live in Ireland and no we are in the dark ages here with regards to female health issues not being pregnancy. Only last year A specialist endometriosis centre was opened in Dublin with only 4 alleged specialist endometriosis consultants and 150,000 women officially diagnosed with endometriosis needing care the waiting list is ridiculous.

I live on the other side of Ireland so geographically I'm screwed.

Government encourages us to get treated outside of Ireland undr the cross border initiative but we have to fund the whole process ourselves. I've not been able to work since Feb 2nd 2022 so not in any way able to try that option

Hi Escapologygirl!

I’m sorry to hear about your troubles. I’m am future Nutritional Therapist- that comes from Functional Medicine branch. I can highly recommend you consultation with Nutritional Therapist in Ireland, as I know many of them work with female patients suffering from endometriosis with great success.

The cost of the visit is comparable to orthodox medicine specialists, but you’ll save yourself waiting time!

You will find particular practitioners on Functional Medicine Irish websites or social media groups.

I’m sending you lots of good vibes and best wishes!

Hey, estrogen dominance is very usual with women with endo and adenomyosis. Endometriosis is driven by estrogen and it makes its own estrogen as I understand .

Doctors give you hormones and decapeptyl and all this synthetic stuff that doesn't help everyone and in long run can harm actually.

Side effects ate insane.

What helps me a lot is calcium d glucarate, it flash extra estrogen out and cleans your liver from toxins.

Look it up, women take it all over the world. It's amazing thing.

Good Nutritionist would definitely help you to naturally balance your hormones, eat the right food, take the right vitamines and supliments. It does help.

But to be totally honest, experienced good endometriosis surgeon who is very experienced in endometriosis will help the most. Endo needs to be taken out fully out of body otherwise will make mess constantly.

I'm sorry you struggle like this, it's a hell i know. We deserve so much better than this. Good luck to you!

I completely agree with this. I have changed my diet and most of the symptoms have disappeared. I also take DIM, I avoid gluten, caffeine, soy and dairy products. Try to find a good nutritionist or start with a book. There are different good books. A good one is: "Endometriosis: A Key to Healing Through Nutrition". All the best!
