Lesions on the Bowel

Hi there, I have recently undergone laparoscopic excision of endometriosis and adhesiolysis at the end of January. So over a week post op. My surgeon found deep and well established lesions from my Sigmoid, lower part of my bowel to the wall of my left ovary. All of my peritoneum was excised completely, which is likely to be endometriosis but there was not classical deposits. My ureter was also released from the bands of adhesions. Waiting for a 6 week post op appointment with my surgeon to discuss histology report.

Post op recovery has been quite rocky! Starting to feel a bit more like myself but still on painkillers. Initially the pain afterwards was so excruciating, naively I thought the op would have a quick recovery and I didn’t even consider how painful it would be after waking up!

I feel a bit uneducated about all of this, and would love to hear if someone has experienced something similar :)

I didn't have much pain post-op, at least not compared with the pain I'd been suffering over the years.

I've been left with scarring on the bowel and around the sigmoid colon. It took me years to realise that this was slowing my bowel movements and making me ill because stuff was staying in the bowel too long. So now I'm taking cosmocol daily and that keeps things regular, my health is much improved.

I struggled very badly with pain post-op and was on the max dose of OTC and prescribed analgesia for at least a full week, and still taking regular analgesia for a few days after that. I found that my body really needed sleep (and rest in general) for the first couple of weeks and I was drinking lots of peppermint tea for bloating and gas pain and using my heat pad almost constantly. Don't take anything unnecessarily but remember that your body has been through a lot and being in pain will only slow your recovery. Give yourself time and take it easy!
