My doctor prescribed me Dienogest for endo pain and said it was fine to take it even though I have a mirena coil. However, in the leaflet it says not to take it if you have a coil… does anyone have any idea?
I ask because my moods have been all over the place and I wonder if it’s because of the double dose of hormones.
Thanks.

I had a similar question for my consultant as well. I had had the mirena coil for about 8 months when he suggested I try the dienogest. I had severe pain from taking it a lot more than I had ever had without anything.
He reassured me that the coil is such a small dose of hormones it’s releasing and the dienogest is also a small dose it should not have an impact. After about a month I was fine. My only issue was bleeding continuously for about 7 months. Eventually had to have the coil taken out as it had become displaced from the bleeding I was having. I also took a week break from the tablet as the bleeding was getting to me emotionally and mentally. I’m back on dienogest alone and I’ve been struggling with the cramps again for two weeks but seem to have subsided now with no bleeding. So hoping things are settling now.
Wishing you all the very best with yours and they often say these things just need some time for your body to get used to it before it settles down. Hoping it all works out for you x
My consultant suggested I could start on dienogest but made it very clear I would have to have the (Mirena) IUD taken out beforehand as you shouldn't have both at once but didn't go into detail as to why.
