Hi.
I had the coil fitted in February, during my laparoscopy. I was told that this would prevent endo coming back. (It will eventually stop menstruation which is what spreads endo).
For the last two months I've been in pain in my left groin and leg, which is what led me to the consultant and ultimately the lap originally. I've been to the Dr, she thinks it could be one of 3 things, one being that it's endo. She sent me to the consultant, a different one to the one I saw originally. She doesn't think it's endo ( I do) but she thinks a 3 mth course of prostrap would help if it is, although she won't give me those injections until my next appointment, in 6 mths time!!
She sent me for an ultrasound yesterday, which I thought was a complete waste of time as that won't show endo, but the person that did it said that my right ovary was clear, but she couldn't see my left one ( where I have the pain ), she said it's stuck behind the womb, which she thinks could be caused by endo!! She's going to write to my GP with the results, I've got to wait and see what happens now.
Hope this helps xx
Hi, thanks so much for your reply and I'm sorry your still suffering after your lap and fitting of the coil...
I had a lap way back in October 11 after 6 months of the Zoladex injections which didn't work for me and fortunately caught pregnant 2 weeks later after my op...considering they said I would need help getting pregnant because of the extent of endo I had we were utterly chuffed. I had our baby boy August 12 and the doc said to me when you have your first proper period then come and have your coil fitted. So in December 12 I did and bled pretty much ever month up until about 3 months ago...now I only get a day of bleeding which is great.. The problem I have got is the same old pains I had way back in 2011..pain in my right ovary, pain in my right groin, extreme bloating, back pain, tiredness etc all the symptoms and I'm like uh oh not again... So I just wasn't sure this could be the case after having a coil or whether it was something else...i have the doctors next week and I'm hoping it's not going to be a waste of time.... I will keep you posted
Xx
Yes Im on second coil and its come back both times sadly it slows endo but wont stop it totally. I also take pop pills and I still bleed. Having said that mirena has been great for me as no more heavy periods. I would recommend it.
Hi,
so good to read other experiences and realise that I'm not the only one.
I had my lap in Jan and they fitted the merina at the same time. I went back in June when i reported all symptoms had come back.
I then had a further appt in sept where the consultant said that endo cannot grow back with merina, especially in 9 months!). It stopped my periods for a while but recently had an awful one which made me very sick for days.
I am going back to see an endo specialist and get a second opinion on Monday as really wasn't happy with this. They just told me to attend a pain clinic, which i am still waiting for.
I really hope it all works for you and helps your pain. Unfortunately it didn't for me but everyone is different
I had a mirena coil fitted in 2011 shortly after being diagnosed, unfortunately it never stopped my periods and all my symptoms have come back, since then I have had two laparoscopic surgeries to remove some of my endo.
My consultant is unsure as to why the mirena hasn't worked for me as it is apparently the 'gold standard treatment' and is reluctant to do more surgeries despite the fact that nothing seems to help.
All the doctors seem to have to offer other than drugs and more drugs is
'have a baby, you wont suffer from it whilst your pregnant' or
'if you were 20 years older and had a few kids we'd just give you a full hysterectomy.' both of which phrases aren't very helpful when you're struggling to get through every day.
Although this method of controlling endo didn't work for me, I hope it works for you everyone is different, so you never know
Thanks for your response and I'm sorry to hear the mirena coil hasn't worked for you and your still suffering.
I have an appointment at the doctors on Tuesday to get the ball rolling again and I am sure my endo is back..i feel me having the coil has slowed me getting my endo back but don't think it has worked 100%...I hope they find something else to help you with your endo...fingers crossed I get a nice sympathetic doctor on Tuesday...x
I had a mirena coil and for four years it worked wonders. Little or no bleeding and pain. I felt normal! After 4 years the Endo returned. So rather than getting it changed every five years, the recommendation is to get it change every four years. Unfortunately this year whilst I lost confirm of the Endo, it has been tough and am now on decapeptyl injections with the aim of dampening the Endo down for a few months and allowing the new coil to settle in.
This is my 3rd mirena coils I have had, and it is good until about 3 years in then it will start regrowing back the endometriosis. However, this time I have had functional cysts on both of my ovaries, and when I lie down it tends to pull on my right and sometimes on my left side. I will see how it goes, before I report it to my gp.
