Surgery in 2 weeks, worries and stress

Hello ladies,

Today the bomb dropped and I have finally been given a date for my surgery... in exactly 2 weeks. I have been waiting for over a year as Covid got in the way. I have stage 4 endometriosis and even if I have wanted this surgery so badly, I can't control the extreme fear and anxiety. I just don't know what to expect... I would definitely love to hear about any experiences please. I just feel so scared and lost and feel like 2 weeks to get mentally ready is going to be difficult...

I would honestly say the shorter the time you have the better. I've had surgery before but not this surgery so could only give that experience, it was also laparoscopic with a general anaesthetic. Even so, I had my pre-op the other week, no date yet, but afterwards because it became more real I started to get a tingle of nervousness and would say that is only natural, best not to overthink it. I'm sure there are msg others here that can offer advice but wanted to say good luck, it will be okay and worthwhile.

Hi Lana,

I've had 2 ops for stage 4 endo and another on the horizon, completely natural to be nervous as it's all so unknown. The doctors and nurses were so kind and reassuring from start to finish, explaining every step. Don't be afraid to ask questions, this should help you feel more in control. You'll likely be seen by your surgeon before the lap which massively helped me relax. I've had nothing but positive experiences with the endo team, I pray you will too. Going under anesthetic was not as scary as I'd imagined, the anesthesiologist was lovely and made me laugh. It all happens rather quickly, before you know it you're waking up wondering what happened. Nurses will be with you to take care of you and load you with more pain killers if you need it. It's such an important step towards getting some relief, you can do this ❤ sending lots of strength your way x

Chloe,

I’m glad to hear you’ve had a good experience and it all went well.

We’re you allowed any visitors at all? How long were you in the hospital for after surgery. X

I stayed in for 3 nights the second time as I developed an infection and I had a catheter from all the work. My mum popped in on the second night but I felt so rubbish I didn't really want anyone there. Bound to be no visitors now, thank god for our phones! X

Thanks for your reply - oh I thought your op was during the COVID.

I’m sorry to hear about the second time around. :( Yes, that’s right least we’ve got our phones if we aren’t allowed any visitor.

Hi, Really pleases you’ve got a date. I was the same I have been waiting a year now, was booked in for April and it got cancelled and then on Friday I was given a date for in 4 weeks time. I’m the same worrying about the surgery as it’s the unexpected but also the thought of it being cancelled after last time is playing on my mind too 😭

Just to let you know your not on your own. Hope your surgery goes well and wishing you a quick recovery xxx

Hey!

So glad you’ve got your date for surgery, especially since you’ve been waiting so long!!

I had a suspect cyst on my ovary which needed a urgent MRI. Everything came back fine & the cyst was from the endometriosis. She called me on 1st September & booked my surgery for 9th! So that was 8 days, I had to have COVID test and then isolate 3 days! I was so so scared, but because I’ve been trying for a baby for 3 years, I knew this was the next step I had to take, I have extreme anxiety & was worried so much to the point I was making myself ill, especially as no one was allowed with me! My husband dropped me off at 12.30. I was going down by 3.15 & I can honestly say it was no where near as bad as I had imagined it to be! I was out by 5.30 so quite a while & was still in hospital by 9pm. The worst part for me was after, as I was sick, which I usually am after surgery. The nurses and everyone were so lovely & kind.

You will be absolutely fine, and once you’ve had it done you will hopefully feel a relief. Be kind to yourself & im only a message away. Xxx
