Hello

Just wondered what people's experience has been with sedation before surgery.

Did you ask for it/have it offered?

Did it help?

Thanks x

Wasn’t offered it, they went through breathing techniques with me and all I was offered was a numbing cream for my cannula, x

Whats sedation? I was just given anaesthetic but I must admit they gave me tablets before I went for my op which made me feel dizzy 😂 If you worried about anaesthetic dont be for me it was over in a second one minute they were talking to me about university next minute I was trying to wake up 😂

Ah maybe the tablets were sedatives? Ok thank you. I know I'm worrying too much about it. Just want it done with now! Xx

Maybe they gave me so many 🤔😂😂 it might of been because I was so hungry as well 😂 Nooo its normal to worry like that I personally wasnt worried about the op it was the aftermath I was worried about because I'd watch both my mum and bro go through keyhole both didnt have a good reaction to anaesthetic but guess what? I was fine I felt really dizzy and nauseous but I just kept drinking water and the combo of lots of antisickness tablets and me telling myself I dont need to be ill I got rid of the awful nausea did take a week or so but I also have gastro problems that didnt help 😂 You will be fine 😉 Xxx

When I went in last year it was my first surgery and had never had an anesthetic before. I told them I was really nervous and they offered to give me a sedative. I turned it down though because the nurses were so good at keeping me calm and making sure I was ok. I was told if I changed my mind I could ask for them at any time x

Hey, I’m the same as you. I’m waiting for a lap and scared of being put to sleep as it’s my first surgery as I hate not being in control of situations etc.

Reading other people’s stories on here on how it’s not as bad as it seems, is kinda reassuring xx

Yea I guess the first time is worse so I just want it over with now! The experiences on here are reassuring ☺ I think I am most annoyed with myself for not feeling braver xx

Hi, I am 7 days post op, that was my 3rd lap. I wasn’t offered any sedatives before hand but I didn’t really need it as I knew what what going to happen. The first time I was very nervous but the staff were lovely and kept talking to me.

Like another post, I too try to see how long I can fight the drug lol. This time I had a mask on first which made me very calm and relaxed, then I just heard “right you will be going to sleep now “. Next thing I knew It was nearly 3 hours later and I was in recovery.

You will be fine, try not to worry too much, it’s all over and done before you know it.

Good luck x
