I have been recommended the coil to try. How do you find it? Does it affect your mood?

coil experience
Is it the Mirena coil that has been recommended to you? I can only speak of my own experience and although it helped with bleeding, it didn't stop and I had awful pain still. On top of this it caused me a number of issues, I believe I had an intolerance to progesterone (not that the GP got to the bottom of it). It included daily headaches, bloating/water retention, skin rashes and aching muscles. I know for many women it works, and I don't know your reasons for needing it but it could help you. My only word of advice is, if it doesn't suit you then insist on it being removed. I found this part a battle.
I thought the mirena was initially quite good. I had my lap in December 21, for 4 months I had no periods, reduced levels of pain and all was well. The pain started to creep back up, by July I was having periods, the same pain I had before the lap. August/sept/October I’ve been back on strong painkillers, mood swings, tiredness, acne at 33… but my periods are very light. The mirena doesn’t seem to have slow my endo from returning and I am waiting to see a surgeon again x
Hi! This is of course personal experience however please do read my other threads for more info.
Before coil: 1 week of mood swings, 1 week of extreme back pain, heavy bleeding and flooding for a week, 2 days of debilitating cramps that would start even before bleeding. Pmdd symptoms made worse by the pill. I was not using hormonal BC
After coil: traumatic and painful insertion despite local painkiller to cervix, 1 week of intense pain, 1 year of moderate pain before ny body adjusted, bleeding stopped completely after a month, mood / depression / pmdd got worse and then levelled out but still worse than before, ovulation cramps, cramps after sex, iud cramps and period cramps, hair loss, weight gain (two dress sizes)
I also can't get it out bc I'm scared of the pain and they won't sedate me and I can't even find a private clinic to sedate me!!
Apart from the lack of bleeding it made my pain much worse and more frequent.
Some women are happy with them but I personally can't recommend it bc I resent listening to the Dr's that pushed it on me when my gut said no. Listen to your gut feeling and weigh up the options. Apparently it does slow growth of endo
I have the hormonal mirena which they usually suggest x
