Having mirena coil fitted

Hello!

I’m 23, I’ve had endo for 10 years now. I had a mirena coil fitted when I was 18 but it was during my laparoscopy so I obviously wasn’t aware of it being inserted.

Some complications and changes, it ended up ‘falling’ down. Then tried the implant and then the pill.

Due to me having my symptoms coming back again, my gynaecologist suggested that I try the mirena again, which I agreed with the avoid surgery.

This has been a bit of a long winded post but I wanted to give some background information and ask how others have found having the coil fitted? I’ve read local anaesthetic is an option, has anyone ever had that before?

I’m thinking if I can manage a pelvic exam, I can manage this…that may just be wishful thinking 😅

thank you for any advice/help anyone may have!!

Thank you for your reply!!

Thankfully I would say my endo pain/bleeding isn’t anywhere near as bad as it was before my first surgery. But we agreed on the coil as a way to try and help with bleeding and pain. By she did say that the first 6 months can be difficult, so I have a check up in 8 months time! And obviously for the first 6 months I may need additional pain medication or meds to help with bleeding, I was nearing that step without the coil anyway.

I wanted to put off having surgery for as long as I can, as I know it can cause more complications down the line, but I’m also about to start my 3rd year of uni, so it makes sense for me to wait until that’s over at least.

Having done some research and speaking to my mum, fingers crossed it shouldn’t be too bad though.

Thank you for your help anyway!! Xxx
