Hi, I also had the prostap injection, while having a mirena coil in place and with add back estrogen (HRT). It made no sense to me either that you take out hormones to replace them but my consultant told me it's fine. Why are they giving you the injections, is it for endometriosis?

You should be on combined HRT.

Hi thanks for the reply.yes I think so I just still bleed on the mini pill, during or after sex and its always painful, back pain, muscle and joint pain high anxiety etc.How did u find the injection? I'm just looking for positives and negatives really see how other people have been x

I think Lindle's reply explains really well the reasons for still having the pill. In all honesty I wasn't happy with the coil or injections, both gave me issues. Like you I still bled and had pain with the coil so I was given the injections to see if it would stop this and see if the pain etc, it did work and my pelvis felt great but unfortunately it gave me other issues, high blood pressure and cholesterol and made my migraines worse. However we are all different and it works well for some. But just be aware you shouldn't be on these injections too long because of the negative side effects such as loss of bone density, which is particularly important if you are only young.

Hello, I have had 5months of prostap injections and I was told to stop my pill. Initially the gp wasn't sure, so we had it confirmed by the gyane consultant who advised me to start it. Not sure if this helps, but might be worth double checking :)

Hi how did u get on with the injection side effects wise? And did u gain weight? So did u use the pill all through having the injections? Thanks x

Hey, I was told to stop the pill a couple of days after getting the injection. So I haven't had my pill in 5 months. Haven't had any bleeds. No I haven't gained any weight, I don't tend to weigh myself but everything fits the same!! I feel like my body has been through so much, I don't want to be punishing it with diets or anything like that... I do have hot flushes alot! The sweating is real! I do find that really difficult at times!x

I didn't notice it at first, I think I became more aware of it after my 2nd injection. I was offered hrt but I just felt like I'd enough medication without adding more! X

You should be given add back HRT to prevent bone loss which is one of the effects of the injections. Usually it is combined oestrogen and progesterone at a dose that is considered insufficient to stimulate endo growth. Everyone's endo is different though so it won't be an exact science. Although combined HRT is recommended add back HRT can be in several forms, including progesterone only so I expect the consultant is thinking along the lines of the pill acting as add back HRT.
