UPDATE. Thickening of the womb at 51. Ultrasound said ovaries normal but now biopsy needed. 😔

Hello. It’s me. Must have had dozens of vaginal ultrasounds but this radiographer particularly quiet. Probe in for maybe 10 silent minutes. When he handed me the wipes and gave me my privacy, I asked if he’d seen anything untoward. His reply “we’re not really allowed to say”…..”call the womens unit”…fast forward to that phone call result. “Yes, your ovaries are normal but there’s an abnormality in the thickening of your womb, I was just writing you a letter”…..I guess now they biopsy and properly check for cancers. I do know about endometrial hyperplasia so maybe now just a rollercoaster of ops, and results. Any advice always welcome. Obviously shitting myself. (Moderators, sorry) X

Hi,

I’m 45 and kind of in a similar position. Have a small fibroid 3cm but also “bulky uterus” so I’ve just had a hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy. I get the results and possible next step on Friday. I have none of the red flag symptoms so not expecting bad news. I do have mega heavy periods. So bad I am now anaemic and getting an iron infusion Monday. I have a few health issues including Lupus, thyroid disease and peripheral neuropathy and quite possibly celiac but can’t really diagnose as I am gluten free.

Anyway! Please don’t worry and I am told the thickening will reduce when we hit menopause ... yay 😖

I am hoping for an endometrial ablation to at least reduce the bleeding which makes me pretty much housebound 3/4 days a month. The ablation however won’t help with the pain. I currently use mefenamic acid and tranaxamic acid to help with it!

Good luck and take care.

Thanks for the reply. I am menopausal though. 51 and period free for 14 months then a bleed. Which is why they sent me for the ultrasound. Just have to get more investigation I guess. I have dreadful lower back ache and pelvic pain. Will try not to worry and hope the procedures aren’t too painful?

Well it’s good you are getting the tests done. I have a slight prolapse too. The fun never ends! I had the hysteroscopy and biopsy done under GA. The surgeon insisted.

I also have lower back pain and pelvic pain and a retroverted uterus.

Keep us posted and good luck 😉 x

Oh the joys……almost always upbeat as anyone knows here I try and help others, after my very very long shitty journey. This day (together with abusive nasty unfaithful other half telling me he doesn’t believe a word I’ve said about my recent diagnosis) is probably one of my lowest points ever in 35 years.

Beware the man you choose to be with.

Or even better advice, beware the man who chooses you. 😔

Oh crikey a bad day indeed! But be safe in the knowledge we are by far the superior sex. Men have no idea what it’s like to deal with the female body! Only what (and when) they can do with it! My other half is a good egg but doesn’t understand my many health issues and lets me carry on like I’m a 20 year old energetic happy soul when really I’m raging inside and want to smash everyone’s face in! I have 2 teenage daughters (13 & 14) so it’s fun fun fun in this house as we have the same cycle! I’d feel sorry for him but I don’t! I often envy my single friends who don’t feel like hamsters on the endless laundry wheel! Sending 🤗... you will get answers and will have better days. I’ve just eaten a snickers (Aldi version obviously!) which made me feel better for 2 minutes. I do think we’d all feel better if the bloody news stopped telling us every day about the cost of living crisis! It’s endless doom!

Take care L x

Snickers Aldi version is The Racer bar! And I hope it brings you some relief in your oestrogen led (clearly superior) household! In the words of The Divine Comedy, The female of the Species is more deadly than the male! X

Indeedy it is the Racer bar! I love Aldi chocolate (too much).Good news today! Biopsies clear. Endometrial ablation awaits! Iron infusion Monday for the anaemia. Crikey I’ll soon be fighting fit 🤣

Hope you’ve had a better day?

Hugs. 😳

So it may well be adenomyosis still responding to what circulating oestrogen you have ( it does even past the menopause.. which you probably are aware of anyway) Don’t panic. You are getting the referrals and these are very like symptoms of adenomyosis too. Until they call it … you know the score. You have all my empathy being it that place is tough.

Yes I’ve heard of Adenomyosis but never been diagnosed with it and I’ve been in and out of hospitals a lot over the years so presume they might have picked up on it before now. Just taking it step by step right now and see what develops. Thanks for the response. Nina.

It’s frequently missed. Like endometriosis it mostly doesn’t show on US , more frequently appears on pelvic specialist MRI’s but even then can be elusive. Bulky / thick appearance is the most usual sign. Sometimes they can see it discoloured and oddly shaped but not always. The view is only post removal with hysterectomy analysis can confirm. Bleeding post menopause is one of the indicators. Hope that clarifies a little. Poor pelvic floor control is often a sign too 🥰
