Laparoscopy & Hysteroscopy in a week.

My laparoscopy and hysteroscopy is in a week and I’m worried about it. What can I expect to feel like when I come round from the op? Not had any kind of surgery since I was 4 years old. I’m now 30. What can a laparoscopy diagnose? If they find anything while in there, will they get rid of it? What if they find cancer? Maybe I’m being dramatic but the closer it gets, the more I’m worrying about it and it’s even worse that you can’t have someone with you before or after the op! I think I need peoples experiences to try and worry less so I kind of have an idea of what to possibly expect! Do I need to take sanitary towels with me? Will I bleed after? Help! Quietly freaking out!

Hello Bluerock7,

We understand that having a laparoscopy can be a daunting prospect. Laparoscopic surgery is the gold standard for diagnosing endometriosis and can also be used to treat endometriosis.

We have a really great info sheet – Laparoscopic surgery for Endometriosis (endometriosis-uk.org/sites/... - on our website which can highlight to you what happens during a laparoscopy and some of the things you may experience after the surgery.

A couple of personal stories about recovering from surgery can be found here:endometriosis-uk.org/surgery

Some things to bring with you have been mentioned here: endometriosis-uk.org/your-l...

The main thing to remember is that you are entitled to ask questions of the doctors who will be performing the surgery to ensure you are comfortable and try to remember that everyone’s experience and recovery time are different and that you should take your time and take it easy when recovering.

Good luck with your surgery and remember that there’s lots of information on our website about being newly diagnosed – including information about the services we offer that can help to support you.

Best wishes,

Catherine

p.s. speaking on behalf of myself, I took some large pads just in case for my laparoscopy. They may remove any endometriosis if they find any, which will give you your endometriosis diagnosis. You will need to ask your surgeon or consultant about the methods they plan to use. It is perfectly normal to be worried, please join any of the support groups or call a support helpline if you need to chat. Make sure you have someone to take care of you for 6 weeks or more after your operation. If not, consider making yourself some food you can freeze and then reheat.

Hi, Thank you so much for all the information, I will have a read through it all. Do you find out if you have endo straight after your op or do you have to go back to see the consultant?
