My 13 year old daughter suffers from pain towards the end of her periods. Unbearable and I can only describe it as like watching someone in labour. The pain is beyond what she can manage and leaves her physically and mentally done in.
GP has been trying her on various contraceptive pills. Since starting on these she now has crippling anxiety which is so bad she has been unable to get to school for the past 3 weeks. Panic attacks at the thought of it.
GP says the anxiety won’t be caused by the pill. I’m finding it hard to believe that.
I want to take her off the pill but she is utterly terrified of the pain returning with her next period.
Having ultrasound next week to investigate if it could be endo. Had to go private
My main question is - is there any pain relief that could help her? GP only says mefenamic acid and that doesn’t touch it. Feel that the GP thinks it’s just bad period pains but it is so much worse than that.
My daughter has been going through the same thing for years she is now 20. She had anxiety from taking contraceptive as well. She takes tramodol for pain and is being investigated for endometriosis . She also tried lupron shots that helped for a month or two but that was it. Don’t let your GP tell you the medication isn’t causing anxiety, it sure caused a lot of problems for my daughter. I wish you luck and hope you get your daughter better
Bless her, only 13 and going through all this! I would ask to speak to a different GP. It sounds like your daughter needs a specialist child/young adult gynae. At the very least, she needs to be offered more pain relief options (there must be some, even though she’s so young!?) They absolutely cannot leave her like this! I never got on with hormones, as they badly affected my moods including making anxiety worse, so I can believe it’s affecting your daughter too. Hope you get more help xxx
