Diagnosed with endo

I am 48 and have been told I have large fibroids and cyst and lots of it is stuck together with endo too. Said surgery too risky because near bowel etc. Going on Zoladex, any advice?!

Hate to break it to you but got to be honest so you're prepared.

I was put on prostap for several months for my endo but as I noticed no difference, they switched me to zoladex. The nurse did mention it was 'slightly more painful'. Slightly more painful, my a**e. It was crippling.

I was totally unconcerned at first- I had jabs in my stomach with prostap and jabs there during hospital stays and while a little delicate in that area for about a week afterwards, entirely tolerable.

I've had zoladex twice now and my next appointment is next week and I'm dreading it. Last time was horrific. As I left the hospital, I could barely walk, I was in tears and scrambled in my handbag for all and any painkillers I could get my hands on. Some of them I'm well aware I'm not supposed to mix but couldn't envision myself getting home without them. Would definitely not recommend driving down. Unlikely you'll be in any position to get behind the wheel of a car.

I had similar but had a full hysterectomy plus endo removal with an endo specialist and a bowel specialist. I was warned my bowel maybe punctured and would need a colostomy bag for a while, but it was successful. Can you try and see a different specialist? It’s a big decision though and obviously carries risks. I am also 48.

Ask your GP for Emla cream and dressings. You apply a few hours before the injection to numb the area. It makes the whole experience with Zoladex so much better. Another tip is try to find out who is the best person to do the Zoladex at your surgery. A good receptionist will often know! Nurses vary a lot. It's a skilled job so who does it can make a huge difference to how it feels after. xx

It made my skin really dry so get a goodMoisturiser and cotton bedding is so good for if you get hot flushes in the night xx

With clearly what is severe endo I doubt zoladex will help. You really need to see an endo specialist at a bsge centre where they have a multi disciplinary team and can give you more support and advice.
