Hey everyone I was just wondering how long was everyone’s surgery and if they had to stay in hospital I wanna have a rough idea of what I’m expecting what should I have!

Do I need a bag in case ?

Will I be in hospital over night?

How long is the surgery ?

Etc etc

Tell me all about it :)

Hi! Is it a diagnostic lap with excision? I've had 2 - both were day surgery with no overnight stay. The actual surgery was about 60-90 mins for each - then a few hours observation in hospital afterwards and home the same day.

Bag wise - I'd take something really comfy to wear home (well, you can just wear that to hospital in the morning! Doesn't need to be in a bag 😂) phone charger, I take underwear and a change of clothes just in case of any unforeseen stays and a dressing gown.

Happy to answer any specific questions you might have ❤️

Hi I had a lap which then required excision surgery so overall it took 90 mins.

But my surgery time was delayed from morning to 4pm so by the time I came out they decided to keep me in over night to monitor me.

I was so glad to have an overnight stay as I felt a bit sick from the anesthetic so they really looked after me more than if I went home!

So my best suggestions are To pack an overnight bag. Make sure you take some peppermint oil capsules to help with the gas pains. And take a stool softener to help with your bowels post surgery.

I hope it goes really well and you have a positive experience

Hi. I’ve been in today for my lap. I think I was away for about 2 hours. They took out my left ovary, a large cyst and a smaller cyst on my right.

I’ve been up to the loo twice. Not too bad. Been give dihydrocodeine.

Currently suffering gas pains in my tummy and shoulders. Have taken 2 peppermint oil capsules which helped to begin with, peppermint tea and now they’re back so I’m going to take 2 more capsules if I can find where the nurse has stashed them!

I’m in overnight as my surgery was later. They said I could go home but it would be late and to be honest I prefer to stay in to be monitored. I brought an overnight bag with basic toiletries, meds, nighty, period pants and comfy clothes to go back in. Oh and also dressing down and slippers to walk down the theatre in.

Also laptop and phone/chargers.

I’m in a private hospital so not sure how wise it would be to take a laptop to nhs.

Good luck. X
