Endo specialist

After being referred to a endo specialist and 2 cancelled appointments later they managed to give me a phone call appointment with a gynae doctor? Even though I was referred to a endo specialist?

5 weeks ago this phone call appointment was, and I’m yet to wait to hear back from with estimated dates of a pelvic MRI, a laparoscopy date and also the doctors cannot do anything about my pain management until they sign off the all clear for my prostap injections. I’m honestly fed up with ringing them but I don’t know what else to do??

Help ☹️

Give the MRI dept a ring to see if they have the referral, also ask about cancellations. I’ve done this in the past and found out referrals never received.

You can be referred anywhere, if there is a different team you’d prefer ask GP to refer. Although we shouldn’t have to if you can spare the funds see a specialist gynae privately. You can also choose who you see, then if they accept and do NHS can add you to this list. Although BSGE is a go to these days, look for experience even if not registered. The components for registration are inadequate.

Your GP can also chase for information don’t let them tell you otherwise. They can also refer to the pain clinic.

Good luck 🤞 let us know how you get on 🙂

Any questions happy to try and help as well

I rang up the secretary and she said referrals are still with him so I’m 5 weeks it’s still sitting waiting to be signed off for me even be put on any waiting lists!! X

Ask your GP to do the referral as urgent for the scan, they can do this easily, explain the consultant hasn’t looked at any referrals. They can do the prostrap, but some prefer the consultant to take the lead on those. It’s crazy I know.

So am I correct in thinking I can ring up my GP and ask to be urgently referred for the scan, even though a hospital gynae is taking lead on this? X

If its being requested by hospital consultant, then I wouldn't think your GP can make the request urgent. I'd call the consultant again and ask that this is sent urgently as 5 weeks is too long for it to sit unsent - especially given the massive waiting lists at the moment!

They said the consultant is on holiday which has been their excuse for the past 5 weeks and she’s not guaranteeing that it’s going to be done when he gets back next week either. I’m going to put in a complaint because it’s getting ridiculous

A GP can refer for scans, the consultant will see the same results. Ask your GP if it’s worth doing, they can only say yes or no.

I’ve done worse in the past, last year. Surgery said they were referring for ultrasound I think at the time, when I called radiology they hadn’t received it. I called the surgery, they said they’d emailed it, in the end the lady at radiology called them, turns out they’d sent to a defunct email rather than through the system. I ended up with a scan the same day. Height of COVID as well. Last year as well I’d been left out of an MDT meetingbecause they thought I’d had an MRI at a private hospital, no one had asked me and I hadn’t. Although I speeded it up with grabbing a cancellation it was too late and they never got round to having the MDT meeting. I had a hysterectomy thinking they had their MDT meeting as I’d been told this all year. They hadn’t, didn’t tell me and no colorectal involvement.

I’ve micro managed more than any of them like, but they have so many they don’t have any vested interest so sometimes you have to ask or tell.
