Post laparoscopy infections and open belly button?

Hey guys,

I had a laparoscopy a month ago which diagnosed endometriosis however they didn’t remove any. I had an abdominal infection the week post op and was in so much pain I ended up back in hospital but now I’m a month post op, my belly button wound has been receiving medical attention every few days to be packed and dressed as it was not healing and very sloughy, however a couple days ago the nurse managed to remove the slough which is great but discovered my belly button is slightly open and I have an infection again. They said they hope it will close up on its own and I’ve been given antibiotics again. I’m been pretty uncomfortable moving about and mentally tired too at this point!

Has anyone else had problems with their belly button healing post laparoscopy?

Hi HanaLou, Sorry you are having problems with your wound. I am 2 weeks post op and everything was fine until yesterday when I discovered a fluid filled brown lump, like a blister, in my belly button. I have spoken to my GP and sent photos and I have been prescribed antibiotics for a week. It is disappointing as I thought it was healing ok up until now. My lap ended up being 5 hours so think my stomach took a bit of a battering! I hope the antibiotics you were prescribed have helped and your wound is now healing nicely.

I have read that the belly button wound is the worst to heal and can take anywhere between 2-6 weeks. It is just frustrating isn't it as having the surgery, receiving a diagnosis, and concentrating on recovery is hard enough without then battling with infections and being uncomfortable. I'm sorry you have been in hospital with an abdominal infection too, it sounds like you have had a tough time.

I'm really hoping these antibiotics work as I don't want to end up going back to gynae ward. It is draining isn't it. Hope you make a speedy recovery and things are now going in the right direction for you Xx

Sorry to hear that! Hope you’re antibiotics do the trick and you’re back on the road to recovery in no time. I’ve not had the best luck unfortunately, at just over 6 weeks post op I still have a hole in my belly button (doesn’t resemble a belly button any more, looks like a funnel) and I had a lot of hyper-granulation tissue which was recently cauterised. Pretty grim! X

Hi I’m currently sat in a&e now. I also had infected belly button from inciois coming open still weeping. However 2 years ago I took my belly piercing out while pregnant, and the skin in between the piercing has a solid lump that’s painful! Maybe hernia
