Hi all need some help and advice if possible please.
I’ve always suffered with heavy painful periods which have got worse since having my last child 3 years ago.
I had a scan few weeks back that detected slight thickening of my lining in my womb so yesterday had and hysteroscopy they tried to obtain a biopsy but it was too painful so now I need to be sedated and have key hole.
My question is can slight thickening be a symptom of endometriosis? My consultant doesn’t think it’s anything like cancer due to my age and that the thickening is only slight he just being cautious and ruling things out.
What else can cause slight thickening I did try and ask him but he didn’t give me a response so now im a little worried
Many thanks emma.

Sorry you are going through this, it's just awful.
I had an internal ultrasound that picked up a thickening in my uterus and a cyst on my ovary.
I also have a bulky uterus apparently! My consultant has arranged an MRI scan which I will have in 10 days. They suspect it might be adenomyosis and perhaps endo. Do you have any other symptoms apart from the heavy periods? I have some bowel issues too which may be connected. Is your consultant an endo specialist? When are you due to have the keyhole?
Thank you for your reply.Yes I do have other symptoms I have bowel issues too painful bowel movements that are much worse when on my period painful to wee when I’m on my period groin pelvic pain and at top of legs all which are really painful when I’m on my period. Bad pains on lower left hand side when ovulating all my pain seems to be lower left hand side.
I’ve also had spotting in between periods not really bad but noticeable.
No I don’t think he is a specialist in endo and I’m just waiting for a call as to when I’ve got to go in.
I was told in my last pregnancy that I have a bulky uterus not sure what that means
Hi Emma, that all sounds awful for you. I also have lower left pains, very painful bowel movements on period. Worse the day before and 1st day, then it settles but is still sore. I feel a real ache when peeing on period, not stingy just like a pelvic pain. I get very bloated and have a very sore to touch tummy on period. Very heavy bleeding with clots. Bowels are just a bit all over the place just now, never feel like I can finish although I am not constipated and go every morning but need to strain to get it all out. (SORRY IF TMI!!!).
I think a bulky uterus is just a bit larger than normal. You sound like you have a lot of endo symptoms. It's just rotten. x
Thank you for replying again.Everything you have said is what I get I’m not constipated but have to strain and never feel I fully emptied when I go. Sorry your going through this too it’s just horrendous. I just want some answers now I’m sick of feeling so drained and tired. I’ve also got fibromyalgia so have that to deal with too. When I had my scan she did say the changes that she can see on scan is what you would see with endometriosis but I’m guessing it’s hard to diagnose and lots of different tests involved and ruling other things out before diagnosis.
Hmmm I think it can attach to scar tissue. Sounds like you are getting some answers, it is horrible. Oh the incomplete feeling is terrible. It is driving me mad! I had a c section with my daughter (emergency) and I do wonder if it has adhered to the scar tissue.
This is what I was thinking with 3 of my children I’ve had to have a cervical stitch in place and my last pregnancy 3 years ago my stitch tied up on left hand side. When it was removed it was a nightmare to get out to the point I had to have gas and air when they removed it. Now I’m thinking If endometriosis has attached to the scarring on left hand side and that’s what’s causing all the pain and issues. Have your issues been going on for long? And how long have you been under gynaecologist for?
That sounds really painful!!!! You poor thing. Yes - that could absolutely be the case. I've had very heavy and painful periods since I started at 11, I went on the pill when I was 19 until I was 34 on and off and this helped somewhat. I then had my daughter 6 years ago, have been off contraception since and it has gotten worse ever since. The bowel issues have been getting progressively worse over the past 6 months, with some symptoms (fullness, incomplete emptying, straining, some pain) remaining outwith my period for about 2 months. I went to my GP who suggested an ultrasound, which I paid for as the waiting list was so long, the result suggested that I be referred to gyne, so I paid to see a specialist in Endo as that was suspected on the scan. He has been fab and wants a closer look on an MRI. All this has happened within the past 6 weeks or so. I was expecting them to say I had fibroids, as that is what I was told at the time of the section, which added complications, but there were none found, just the thickening, bulky uterus and cyst. I am a bit worried (understatement!) but I have found this forum really helpful. My c section scar is really thick on the left hand side, which is where I have my cyst, so I guess it could be related, I've never thought about that! x
Same here ive always had painful heavy periods since I started at about 12 but I thought that was normal back then. But been a lot worse since having my last child 3 years ago. 6 weeks is good going mines been about 8 weeks my first appointment was to check my cervix which was all fine. I was then referred for a scan then for the camera and biopsy which obviously they couldn’t obtain. Hopefully will no more soon.
Hope you get the answers you need soon keep me posted on your mri
I will keep you posted and thank you too it’s put my mind at ease a little knowing that thickening lining is not just the dreaded C word which is what was really panicking me.Here to chat whenever you need.
Endo is scar tissue. It is a chronic inflammatory process that causes fibrosis that gradually builds and invades structures to replace normal tissue. Your symptoms are concerning. Bowel issues and leg pain are typical of rectovaginal endo which develops as endo progresses and almost always affects the left side. You need to see someone with specialism in endo.
It is endo within the muscular layer of the uterus and can show on scans. But this wouldn't usually show as a thickened lining as it is deep below that. The lining they see at a hysteroscopy is the functional layer that builds and breaks down as a period each month. It varies in thickness throughout the month and wouldn't be a sign of endo.
I have been told I've got an "adenomyotic uterus", which means my uterus is swollen and bulky. I've panicked a bit and I'm awaiting an MRI scan. I'm also experiencing bad bowel symptoms and nausea xx
Past few days I’ve been having nausea but I’m not sure if it’s because I’m stressed out. I’m still awaiting a call from consultant to see when there doing biopsy just want it over and done with now can’t stop worrying xx
Stress can certainly make you feel nauseous, but it becomes a vicious cycle when you're worried about your health. Fingers crossed you get some answers soon xxx
