Mid York’s BSGE referral and more

Hello fellow endo warriors,

Has anyone any experience of getting referred to the mid York’s trust BSGE centre at Pinderfields?

My consultant gynaecologist (at Bradford) wants to do a diagnostic laparoscopy to confirm stage 4 endo and bowel implications. She won’t just perform a hysterectomy despite me being referred to her from another consultant gynaecologist suggesting this course of action. I’ve waited nearly 2 and half years now with no actual treatment (only having scans and an unsuccessful referral for a UFE (to remove fibroids) but my case was deemed to complex for this.

Today I have found out I may be waiting another 8-12 months for this diagnostic laparoscopy at Bradford in order to get referred to BSGE centre at pinderfields. I could go private but Bradford will only accept a laparoscopy from Dr Kevin Philips at Hull. I don’t know how much it would be or if he would even do it?

In the meantime I have been offered GNRH injection for the pain.

Has anyone got any advice or experience with any of the above?

Comments gratefully received

Thanks

From deflated 41 year old endo warrior

I've just got myself myself appointment with Pinderfields and I didn't need a referral from a doctor, I was able to do it myself :) it's £170 to meet with Dr Kremer, he is the one you will want.

Ironically I'm with Bradford too, they refused to even put me on the waiting list for the lap :( so I can understand why you've had enough. Xxx

Thank you that’s so helpful to know there is a direct route. I think I need to do the same as 4 consultants in 2 years has got me know where other than them all saying it’s too complicated. Hope you ok x

I went through Spire I think it was called, I just googled Dr Kremer and managed to request a call back through their website. They rang me back in 5 minutes and I had an appointment for 4 weeks later :) was super fast and easy, I double checked with her and she said he doesn't require a GP referral 🙂 he also has an NHS practice so you'll be able to become an NHS patient if he feels he can help. Will mean surgery can be done on the NHS, if you want it to anyway. I'm debating paying for my lap so I can be diagnosed faster.

Thanks love, I'm not doing great at the moment but hoping things get sorted with this private appointment. I can definitely understand the frustration with Bradford! I spoke to one of the young male gynecologists over the phone, he was worse than useless. He tried telling me that endometriosis doesn't cause blood in the urine during a period! Or pain in your thighs 🙄. Xxx

I really hope your appointment goes well and you get a diagnosis/result you need. Why does this feel like a battle all the time?! I will certainly try what you have suggested. Like you living with constant pain and problems is debilitating at times. Stay strong :)

I wish I knew sweetie. I don't think it helps that lots of gynecologists are male, which immediately gives them a disadvantage because they can't possibly imagine how painful this is. Also the pandemic, it has made waiting lists even longer than they were previously, which was pretty long to begin with! So consultants are cautious about placing any further names on there, because it pushes times up even higher. I see the logic there, I really do, but they can't allow people like us to suffer for longer just because their lists are too long to manage. I hope you manage to get help too love, feel free to get in touch if you need a chat xxx
