Hi, I was diagnosed with endometriosis 3 years ago. I was prescribed tramadol ages ago for when the pain is bad, however as you can imagine they make me quite sleepy so being a teacher I can’t take these while at work. I contacted my gp for different pain relief, as the pain is getting quite unbearable. He prescribed me buscopan. I haven’t had much luck with these so far, was wondering if anyone else has had these and whether I should stick with them or contact the gp for something else?
Many thanks!

Hi Ellie, I can understand your dilemma here. I was a teacher and on tramadol while waiting for my op. By 6pm I was out of it and needing to go to bed. So i talked to school and on parent's evenings I arranged to stop by then. I think that tramadol has different effects on different people and I definitely got more used to it and was less spaced out as time went on, but it was the only drug that touched the pain. So I stayed on it, taught and finished school in time to rest. Only a temporary measure though I know. I hope that long term your GP has provided other options for you. In the end I had surgery, a mirena coil fitted and went on a special anti inflammatory diet. It took me over a year to get off painkillers completely (after surgery) though so do persist with whatever action you try. All the best with it and with teaching; not the easiest profession to be in when dealing with pain. I hope you have good support at school and from your GP while you get on top of this.
Thank you for replying. Sorry to hear you suffer with it too. Not nice at all. I’m glad to hear you no longer need the painkillers, that’s great. I have had 2 operations now to remove the growths which helped for a little while but it’s been nearly 2 years since my last operation and it’s slowly getting more and more painful. I think I will stick with the tramadol for a while as like you said it’s the only thing that really touches the pain. Then I will try and get back into contact with my GP to discuss my options further. Take care x
There's a painkiller called Etoricoxib (needs to be taken with something to protect your stomach such as omeprazole or famotidine). This painkiller can be taken daily. Its a great painkiller, the half life is 22 hours so it should last most of those hours. It's better for the digestive system than naproxen.
