Hi All,
Hoping people would be willing to share info on how Prostap has helped/ Not Helped?
Thank you 😊
Hi Ambs2018, I started on prostap in sept 2020 - to see if a hysterectomy was a reasonable next step in the journey for me (was previously diagnosed with endo in 2010, had it excised in 2011 then a further lap in 2019 which found some endo and an enlarged uterus).
After starting the prostap I had a much heavier and long lasting period at about 2 weeks in along with more pain than normal (which I was expecting based on the experience of others). After this I then started feeling really tired, struggling to concentrate, waking in the night and feeling hot around week 3-4.
I started taking hrt at week 4 and within a couple of days felt that all these symptoms improved significantly.
Week 5-12 I felt great! At this point I decided a hysterectomy was probably the way forward for me.
Unfortunately after week 12 I had bleeding along with a lot of pain - much worse than a “normal” period for me - initially it only lasted a few days, but then it came back and was on/off (mostly on) for the next 8 weeks. My gp gave additional pain relief, iron tablets (at my suggestion) and tranexamic acid (which I could only use a few day’s at a time). I was signed off work about 4 weeks into this as I was just a bit of a mess and then had my op.
I am now 7 weeks post hysterectomy and feeling good - have not taken any painkillers for about 4 weeks which was unheard of before. While I am aware there is a risk of the endo returning I am really hopeful for the future. Hope that helps! Any questions please just ask! X
Hi Pacman12, thank you so much for replying. Think that is one thing that is making me worry is that a lot of people say the 1st month is usually a lot worse but can settle down once you have had your 2nd injection. Glad to hear you are feeling good following your hysterectomy. Its such a tricky decision trying to decide whether or not to have them x
No probs! I’ve found such a lot of good advice and support on this forum so am happy to share my experiences 😊. Although the first few weeks were worse than normal they were still manageable - and because I was aware this could happen I’d deliberately planned a quieter few weeks (as much as possible!). Once I got past the first few weeks I did feel great! And in some ways that fact that I then started experiencing pain again from week 12 just made me feel that the hysterectomy was the right decision for me even more. It is such a difficult and personal decision.
Wish you all the best 😊 x
Hi. Prostap for me was a very positive experience, I had it for 6 months on monthly injections with hrt whilst I recovered from surgery and healed enough for ivf. I didn’t get chance to research the surgeon who I completely trust said it was the best way to go forward for me and he was spot on. I was mid cycle so the withdrawal bleed was very light and other than the occasional hot flush it was brilliant, for the first time in 2 years I actually felt well and pain free. I do know from research o have been very fortunate it worked so well, I don’t know if it’s got anything to do with it really but one of the nurses I saw said she noticed that ladies whose mums had an easy time with menaporse often seemed to do ok with it but I’ve not looked into more but I found it interesting. Good luck. Xx
