Eastenders Endo storyline, Opinions please ❤️

Hi,

So watching eastenders last night and I’m in disbelief!!

Brief outline for anyone who does not watch, girl gets pregnant falls downstairs loses baby. Has an appointment at hospital after miscarriage her first miscarriage, the doctor has a very brief discussion about her periods she says heavy and painful but she “just gets on with it” the doctor then says ah you might have endometriosis which means you might never have children.

Ok so many issues screaming at me here with this...obviously it’s a brand new storyline so it’s never been mentioned before that she has painful periods so that’s just what it is but the fact she “just gets on with it” is damaging already! I say this a lot but some days I can’t “just get on with it” so the next time I ring in sick is someone going to say well in eastenders she just gets on with it?!

Ok last nights episode, she gets a phone then goes home to her husband and says she had phone call from the gynaecologist and they told her she had severe endometriosis?! They had not mentioned her having tests done or scans and if I’m not wrong the only way of being diagnosed is through a lap?! Nope not for her just a phone call 🤷‍♀️

I no I should be happy it’s being mentioned in a mainstream program and people might actually no what it is but I think they r doing more damage and it’s only been mentioned twice?!

Also choosing a pregnant actor to portray a storyline about an illness that makes it hard or impossible to get pregnant kinda a kick in the teeth?!

Very much like some opinions if your agree or disagree or don’t really care 😂

I completely agree with everything you have said. I'm sorry but this storyline paints a completely different picture of what endometriosis is really like. 😠😠. Yes it can only be diagnosed through a laparoscopy. They obviously haven't done proper research into endometriosis at all. And as you said now people who watch the programme are going to be thinking that we exaggerate when we say how bad endo is and how debilitating it is.

Hmm. Maybe it's so unknown that just saying endometriosis on TV is a place to start? That's the only way I can think to spin it to the positive - a tiny, insy-weensy positive.

I agree with you though, speading misinformation is not beneficial. It would have been better if they researched what the experience of endometriosis is like first.

*Sigh*

I was watching it too, and omg I thought the same. Completely agree with you, it’s kind of hard to see aswell as so many of us suffer for a long time before anything is done. Xx

Yes I thought wow that was a quick diagnosis. We have never heard of her having issues with her periods or pain. Then all of a sudden she is diagnosed with severe endometriosis without any tests etc .....I thought eastenders would have done more thorough research into this before the storyline made TV to make sure it can educate people who don’t know much about endometriosis or allow us who suffer to relate to us ladies who have it x

You can get diagnosed with endo from scans if you have an endometrioma. I brought this up on the Forum the other day and got a few responses from others like me who have been diagnosed from scans. healthunlocked.com/endometr...

I don't watch Eastenders but maybe the character had a scan and she has an endometrioma which as far as I understand indicates severe endometriosis, so may not be that unrealistic. I was diagnosed two weeks after my scan. It's probably just badly scripted (as are most soaps IMO!😅)
