Feeling like im "faking it"/ Private ££

Hi all

Im just feeling a bit fed up and like im faking it when I have days or moments in the day when I have no pain. Anyone else?

My period has gone all over the place since being put on desogestrel and sometimes bleed for 20 days. And if my pains aren't as bad as they can be I feel like I'm exaggerating and feel guilty?

Most of my pain is in my right thigh and I get sharp shooting pains in my back/abdomen and also achey right shoulder. Along with something other pains. 😔

Waiting for an NHS gynae referral appointment now but im desperate for a diagnosis. What are peolles experience with costs for diagnosis? Can I get a private diagnosis and then go for NHS treatment? Would anyone be willing to share a breakdown of their costs?

Thanks ❤

Please be kind to yourself and no you not faking it so be thankful for the few pain free days you get and use the opportunity to get things done.Iv had my treatments on the nhs the only difference being the wait time which is obviously shorter in private.I did my research but still got my gp to refer me on the Nhs.

For private you looking at between £2000 minimum upwards of £5000 for a laparoscopy depending on what part of the uk you are in and also consider that most of these private Drs work in the nhs alongside their private practice so you in good hands either way.

King Edward VII hospital is private andsupposed to be very good and bsge accredited but ridiculously expensive.

My right shoulder hurts so bad and is worse a day to my cycle the consultant says it’s hormones messing with me.You are in my thoughts and prayers.

(P.s another thread on here has previously discussed this so have a read too

Just had a quick look through it on my break! Lots of good info! I definitely don't doubt the competency of the NHS or anything its just the wait times that are driving me as crazy as the symptoms!

I know right and it also depends how crazy your pain drives you when it hits.I couldn’t afford private really so had no choice so it took me nearly 3years to finally get diagnosed (mainly because my go said some women just have really heavy and painful period it’s Mother Nature at work)and another 9months on the waiting list to get surgery.

I feel you on this one!!! I’m currently looking into see a private endometriosis specialist but also someone that works for the NHS so that if they recommend a Lap I can maybe go on the NHS waiting list instead of paying private for it. My struggle is getting a Consultant to agree to do a Diagnostic lap, but I’m hoping if I see a specialist they will understand and listen! x

Yes you can get tests privately they will be sent back to your GP and you should then be able to go ahead with NHS treatment, providing the tests results indicate that treatment is necessary of course. I had a double MRI (abdomen and pelvis) without contrast which was £410. It will depend where you are in the country and exactly what you have done - mine was quite a modern facility with new equipment. A private consult would be in the region £120. But contact your local private hospitals for a quote. Mine was paid for on my partners health insurance which was fortunate, but they sent a breakdown of costs. Laparoscopy is much more expensive as its surgical, some hospitals publish rough costs on their websites but it depends on what exactly they do doing the procedure.

I have been fobbed off since I was 14 about my symptoms. I finally had enough of nearly passing out during my period of when I have a bowel movements so I straight up asked my GP for a referral, she reluctantly gave me one.

I'm lucky enough to have private cover, I saw a consultant who sent me for a specialist ultrasound with a consultant radiologist. All of which has been done in less than 3 weeks! Whilst the ultrasound isn't a definite diagnosis, it showed 'evidence of endometriosis on my bowel'. If my insurance doesn't cover a laparoscopy so I will be going on the NHS waiting list. Even if that is the case, I've definitely cut my wait time down a lot by going private. It's also a relief to know I'm not crazy!

As for costs, mine are covered by insurance but it would have been £150 per appointment with the consultant. I had one initial consultation and am due follow-up consultation after my ultrasound (which was today). I'm not entirely sure how much my ultrasound was but I believe it was between £150 -£250.

Hope this helps!!

You aren’t faking it and don’t let doctors think you are.I saw gynae privately, they did NHS as well and had option of private or NHS at diagnosis. Cost £200 for consultation. I did sell some bits to pay for op. Just under 3K for lap and treatment.

Hope you don’t have to wait long
