I'm failry new here and would really appreciate your help.
I'm 31 and been TTC for 5 months for our first baby.
I've been quite anxious about nothing happening so saw a private fertility doctor a couple of weeks ago. I had an internal ultra scan. She said I have a 2cm simple cyst on my left ovary and signs of mild endometriosis. This wasn't too much of a shock as I've had painful periods since aged 11 but I only get the pain for 1 or 2 days during my period.
She has suggested I can have a laparoscopy & hysteroscopy to help improve my chances of conceiving by 15% each month. However, she said I have a 50% chance of conceiving without surgery. she said she can check my tubes whilst I'm under.
I'm terrified of going under general anesthesia. I have booked my surgery for 9th March but now I'm starting to get very anxious and thinking of cancelling it.
My questions are, do you think the surgery is worth it for 15% increased chance of conception each month? I've also read there is a dye test to check my tubes (where you are not put to sleep)...could this be an less invasive treatment option initially ? Do you think the cyst might go away on it's own?
Thank you

A laparoscopy is the only way to diagnose endometriosis so I'd 100% go ahead with it as it will make things so much easier in the long run if you have an official diagnosis 😊 I had one in 2017 and the recovery was maybe 2 weeks before I started to feel better, so it's not as invasive as you think, just more scary especially if you're not used to hospitals and the likes x
Hi there 😊, just to share my experience I was struggling to conceive in 2010, had a investigative laparoscopy which identified a cyst, endo and a likely blocked tube (as they did the dye test). I was referred to a fertility specialist who did a second lap in 2011 where she removed as much of the endo as she could, unstuck things and identified that I had a wall down the middle of my womb (a septate uterus) rather than a blocked tube. I can’t remember what she did about the cyst. Amazingly I fell pregnant 6 weeks after the second lap which I am forever grateful for.
I understand your fear about a general anaesthetic - in my experience the reality of it was nowhere near as bad as I had feared (I’ve had 4 surgeries now in total) - the nurses and anaesthetists were all amazing.
I hope sharing this experience helps you, best wishes for making your decision xx
The dye test to check your tube is a hsg perhaps do that first before your procedure. In TTC you don’t really have an issue till after 12months with no result so,please don’t panic so much yet as not every kind of endometriosis affects infertility. Also,if your surgery is on the nhs and you not feeling confident perhaps postpone it not cancel as it’s hard to get back on that ladder.
