Does being Vegan eliminate Endo pain?

Anyone heard of Dr. Neal Barnard, Author of Your Body in Balance: The New Science of Food, Hormones, and Health?? He seems to claim going Vegan along with a low fat diet can eliminate Endometriosis. Has anyone tried this? Or have you had good results by becoming vegetarian as a start?

I’ve not heard of it.. But no doubt it’s on the basis dairy contains hormones.. Well, the fact of the matter is, a plant is also a living organism, that also contains hormones! Ie, you can’t graze your breeding sheep on certain grasses, usually clover, which is part of the legume family, and is massively high in phytoestrogen! In my opinion, and in any medical professional opinion, people who suffer from chronic diseases need a decent level of protein, as that is what is used in cellular repair! A level you won’t be able to get from a vegan diet, without eating plenty of phytoestrogens!

So all in all, just eat a healthy balanced diet!

I have Endo around my bowel and I find eating too much veg leaves me in bits personally!

Thank you, valid thoughts about hormones in food all round!

I was vegetarian when I first got severely sick with endo (before my diagnosis) I'd been veggie for 8 years. I then started eating meat and fish again, but I'm very selective with what I eat. I found that when I was veggie I was eating a lot more processed food, where as now I try to avoid processed foods. I notice it's worse when I eat that type of food, for example quorn fake meat substitutes, soy proteins and that type of thing. It probably is good for you to be a 'clean' vegan/veggie but then I found I didn't get enough protein so meat it is, for now anyway. I might return to being veggie once I've had surgery. I do have a friend with endo who cut out dairy and said that helped. But then soy isn't meant to be good for endo so you have to be careful as a lot of dairy free products have soy in them.

Thank you! That is really interesting!! I am already gluten and dairy free due to intolerances so it is an interesting one!
