Does endo affect being pregnant/the baby?

Hi there,

So long story short - NHS lap 16th December confirmed stage 1 endo and "removed" via diathermy. Private healthcare lap 28th March confirmed STAGE 3 endo (due to not being removed!!!!) spread throughout my entire pelvis and removed PROPERLY via excision.

I had my post op consult with the surgeon yesterday and endo had been removed from pretty much everywhere possible within my pelvis and also from the outer shell of my ovaries.

Thankfully and fingers crossed my fertility hasn't been affected and I should be able to conceive a lot easier now.

I just thought of a question I didn't think to ask and was just wondering - if the endo comes back and I become pregnant, will it harm the baby? Has anyone had a baby whilst having live endo?

Thanks x

My friend did and her little boy is a happy bouncing one year old. She was advised to breast feed as long as possible to help keep endo at bay.

I had stage 4 endo excised before I was pregnant with my son. I had some left on my bowel as I needed further surgery to fully remove it. There was no effect on my pregnancy from the endo. The only problem was that due to surgery (I had removal on my US ligaments) I had quite a lot of discomfort as the baby grew. My son was born to term and despite a rocky start (unrelated to endo) he is a happy, healthy 2.5 year old!

I was symptom free from my endo during my pregnancy and breast feeding. It was only when I stopped bf that my symptoms came back. Following the birth of my son my symptoms worsened and I needed more surgery - but that is not the case for everyone.

I am now pregnant again following further surgery and again have discomfort from the surgery and adhesions/scar tissue.

Thank you so much for replying that is so great to hear. I'm 22 and have just had stage 3 endo removed from various places within my pelvis including the outer shell of my ovaries so I'm now feeling very broody and excited for a little family when I'm a bit more ready! X

Hi,

Ive had 2 sons with active Endo - unfortunately I had to have 2 emergency C - Sections due to other conditions (not endo) so the issues I had were with the severe scar tissues/adhesions 2nd time round & since.

But during pregnancies I was Endo symptom free & made sure I breast fed both for approx 18mths each so 4 1'/2 yrs of bliss (kinda!) :)
