After waiting for nearly a year, I finally got my surgery date for laparoscopy to remove my ovarian cyst. I am relieved that I finally got it and its going to happen but I am really really reallt nervous now and feeling really scared. I have never been under for any reason (never fainted in my whole life) and I am really worried how I’m going to feel just before it happens and when I wake up. Will I be in a lot of pain as I am really not good with pain.
Can you help me or share your experience please. Thank you

I'm not gonna be very much help because I'm in the same situation waiting on a cyst removal never having had it done before. If you don't mind me asking, when have they scheduled your surgery for? I'm still waiting on a date and they can't even give me a rough idea because of cancellations of surgeries because of rise in cases. I'm in the North West UK so don't know if it's maybe different here? But, I hope you're okay, I am sure lots of people will share their experience to put your mind at ease x
Hi! It will be on 15th I did ring up a week ago to ask for an update and they also said the same thing and didn’t know when a date would become available as they told me that they are not operating at the moment. So I was confused but happy when I got the call today.
Ah how strange! Well at least you've got your date now that's good! Hopefully they're starting to do them again and catching up with everything. Keeping my fingers crossed for a date now 🤞
HiIt’s not as scary as your imagination believes it to be.
I had my first op nearly a year ago at 51, lap to confirm endo. I was really nervous. They manage any pain really well. The worst bit can be residual gas pain, I didn’t have this first time, but did in November.
One minute your with anaesthetist at the beginning and next you’re in recovery.
You may be out the same day, but just in case take a small overnight bag with you, they may run late.
I know, it’s incredibly hard, especially when an operation is the only way to confirm a diagnosis. You find yourself not really wanting an op, but in the same instance desperate to know and get relief. The op teams are very good and helpful, although it feels a bit of a whirlwind at the time 🙂
Hi I also felt scared when I got my surgery date for laparoscopy, but I was worrying about nothing really.I have had 3 surgeries so far, I was more nervous waiting to go to theatre than the actual surgery.
When you are ready to go under, by the time you count to 2, you will be sleeping. You also have the consultant, anaesthesia nurse and other healthcare people looking after you. You are in the very best of hands. I tell them I am nervous, they totally understand 💗as for your pain they will manage that for you and give you pain relief, only thing I couldn’t do was urinate and they wouldn’t let me home until I could. I stayed in overnight as I live quite far from hospital so pack a bag incase you have to stay. Things like music, magazine, sanitary towels, knickers, maybe snacks, pyjamas and dressing gown, just anything that will make you more comfortable. Good luck and feel free to ask anything XX
They said I would have had a catheter put in but I sat on the toilet for about 10 minutes then had a pee. I had afternoon surgery and urinated just before midnight. It didn’t hurt at all. I also had a hysteroscopy at the same time and thought it would be sore but you are still kind of drugged up in a nice way x
It’s totally normal to feel nervous, I felt this way too and everyone I spoke to about it said the same. I had my first ever lap 3 weeks ago. Tell the nurses and anaesthetist you’re feeling nervous and they will give you lots of reassurance. Once you go under it’ll feel like seconds and you’ll come round again. I woke up with a face mask already back on my face (which I found reassuring as I was worried I’d have a tube in my mouth or something which I didn’t have at all!)
The pain was non existent because you take medication before your op. You will most likely feel sick and dizzy but they gave my an anti sickness injection and I felt so good after that.
Honestly it’s so much better than our worst fears, our anxiety pre surgery makes us imagine the worst I reckon. I really hope your op goes well and you have a good experience post op too xx
