Progesterone only pill?

After being diagnosed this year (after 8 years) and having my op, I am now trying different treatments. I had the depo injection and found it really didn’t go well with my body (it was awful for me) just like all the other forms of contraception I’ve tried. The hospital have advised my last option is ‘progesterone only pill’. I wanted to hear other people’s experience with this? I’m so weary about agreeing to this as I know the effect the pill/injection/implant hormones have had on me, and they were all extremely low points for me. So if anyone has taken this and wants to share their experience, I would be more than grateful!

It's horrible when your constantly jumping around from one hormone treatment to the other......I was on prostap......then pop now back on prostap!!!I don't think my body had time to adjust to the pill but my friend started taking it around the same time and she's fine with it, took her 4 months for her body to adjust but she said she's glad she stuck with it. Another friend has been on it for years with no problem....

It can be a long process finding what works best for you

Hi, I have extensive endometrios and having tried so many things I was told that morphine was a last resort which no didn't want to take. A collegue of my husband said she had been taking progesterone and it worked for her so I asked my doctor. I have been on a double dose (two tablets a day) of Norgeston and it has been wonderful. It stopped my periods which so much.

I was praying for the menopausal Thinking that would get rid of the endo but unfortunately it didn't. Becausecmine us so bad it seems it's making its own estrogen to survive so I am still on the progesterone and couldn't do without it.

I would say give it a try. It's worked for me and if it doesn't for you at least you have given it a go.

Hey, my consultant put me on desogestrel (pop), about 4 months ago. At first I got terrible side effects - nausea, breast pain, spots, mood swings. Now, it has mostly settled down and I am glad to be on it. The really good thing on this pill is that I have much less pain, and it is also supposed to help slow the growth of endo/cysts which reassures me. The first couple of months I had one week of light period followed by 3 weeks with no bleeding. The third and fourth months I've been bleeding most days, but only very light, with mild cramping now and then (and occasional worse pain). This is overall an improvement on where I was before, so I'm quite happy with it. The only side effect I still have is a few spots. He has suggested I take 2 a day instead of 1 pill, to try and stop the bleeding entirely, but I'm wary of more side-effects again. Just my experiences, but hope it helps 🙂 If you are going to try desogestrel, I recommend persevering through the first month or two.
