Hi, I’ve had the mirena coil for a few years now but would like it to be removed.
I went to my GP a few months ago to ask for it to be removed and they said that I have to go back and see a gynaecologist for it to be removed as they won’t be able to do it due to the fact I had the coil inserted whilst I had ablation surgery.
Has anyone else been told this? I was first advised when I had the surgery that it could be removed by my GP/nurse at any time. I’ve now been on the waiting list for a few months but obviously due to the current pandemic I’ve not had an appointment through yet.
Any advice would be appreciated x

That odd mine was removed with the GP even though I had mine fitted during a lap 🤔

When I saw the nurse after mine was fitted during lap she mentioned that sometimes they trim the strings too short during surgery which makes it difficult to remove. Possibly this is why?
I had the same surgery and one fitted In hospital , i had mine removed by a GP - mine was more the hormones affected me badly and the bleeding was worse than before
They have told me this aswell, as it was done in hospital I would have to get it removed there, when speaking to hospital they said GP can do it, very confusing
