Hope everyone is well! I just wanted to get some advice on how you guys deal with the periods that make you feel like you're bleeding out. My last three periods have been hell, lasting three plus weeks and now I'm being treated for anaemia.
Mainly I'm needing some advice on...
- how to stop staining everything (especially beds from flooding)
- how to keep iron levels up (my GP has prescribed me pills but feels like they're doing sod all tbh)
- how to bring up your energy levels
- why have you guys experienced sudden changes in your periods (cysts/other conditions)
- have any of you experienced the weird side effect of every single time you get sick you get a period?
Thanks!!
Xx

I’ve had this on and off over the years, I’m already anaemic so any excessive bleeding knocks me out further. The iron (ferrous sulphate) pills do nothing for me plus they upset the stomach for a lot of people so I’ve resorted to paying to get iron IV every 1-2 months plus vitamin b12 because I’m also deficient in that. It does make a difference for me but appreciate it isn’t an option for everyone. You can get these both via GP but have to make a case for it and it’ll take forever (in my experience) and then they’re looking for any excuse to stop them which is when I went private.
The staining of sheets and clothes - on my heavy days I wear tight bicycle shorts to keep my pads in place and sometimes sleep with a towel underneath me - doesn’t always work but then it does save me other times
I did used to have the nausea and getting ill side effect. One of the pills I was on I swear it impacted my immune system - id catch whatever bugs were going around and more than once. I think all of it, heavy bleeding, nausea, immune system is all effected by the hormonal treatment you’re on and would really encourage you to push your gp for a different treatment plan until you have one you’re happy with x
