Hormone type headaches

Hey everyone

Just wondering if anyone else suffers from hormone headaches before their periods? I never used to but since I had a laparoscopy in 2018 and was told I have bowel adhesions, they've started and now have gotten to the point where I without fail have horrendous headachea for 3 days before my period. I'm taking my pill continuously atm to try and stop the headaches but it's not working. I have a high pain threshold for headaches but these are really interfering with my life. Nothing at all helps the pain, even codeine. Any one have any tips? It'll be 3 more months still I can see my consultant

Codeine usually makes mine worse because it makes me dehydrated. I also suffer badly with hormone headaches so I completely empathise. I'm finding some diet adjustments are helping along with increasing water intake. I also use a cooling stick like 4Head to help...and Voltarol cream can be helpful too (don't use it if you're already taking NSAID's like ibuprofen though). I have a gel pack I keep in the freezer and heat packs can help too, just depends on the weather and preference I think.

I'm sorry you're suffering so much.

Thanks!! It's so awful isn't it. I've just ordered a cooling pack now, coming tomorrow. I didnt think of voltarol! Which one do you use? I have a joint one but maybe need the muscle one? Xx

I use both lol. I also have fibromyalgia hence using them both. I do tend to use the muscle one more as I get a lot of neck tension too which adds to the headaches. I hope you can find something that will help! xx

I definitely suffer from hormonal headaches too. I also started getting them when I was put on the pill. I found that it actually gave me the migraines. By the time I had a lap that migraines contributed towards my diagnosis for Endo. They definitely interfere with my life. I can go for five days straight just feeling the worst. I think diet changes removing certain foods for example high sugar foods is supposed to help. I was just switched to lactose free milk. And I’m just using certain supplements that are supposed to be helping with hormonal imbalance. So far I don’t know if it’s working because I’ve also started IVF so make that journey a bit difficult to tell. But I know plenty of people who swear by the same changes. I’m sorry you’re feeling that way it’s really awful. When your head is not hurting if it was as though your whole body is just completely attacked.

That sucks, why must everything have bloody side effects?! I've been on the same pill for years and never had them til my laparoscopy, so weird. I'm lactose intolerant do I already have lacto free stuff so that's a good start! Which supplements do you take if you dont mind me asking? Xx

I suffer with these hormonal headaches and have done for the last four years. I’ve a short cycle of I find myself getting these migraine episodes 5-6 times a month. The only thing that relieves me is zolmitriptan 2.5mg. You can’t take this with the pill so I manage by modifying my diet and taking supplements to reduce inflammatory response. The headaches are so debilitating but this tablet has been life changing for me! Hope things look up!

Someone above mention lactose free stuff, which I already do because I'm lactose intolerant. I'm not massively into sugary stuff (only 1 day a week) and I've not noticed any differences when I've given up meat etc x
