Endo / bleeding / symptoms

Hi I had laparoscopy 4 years ago and the surgeon apparently cut away the endo. He stated it would not return. Can it still return if its cut away? Assuming new endo can appear? I'm suffering with really heavy periods, coming through to my clothes after 2 hours of super+ tampons. Also had a bleed after 21 days rather than usual 26.

I suffer with back, thigh and bum pain during my periods.

Any advice or help please? Thank you

Hello, sorry to hear this did you have wide excision surgery? Or laser? NHS?

Endometriosis is a chronic condition even the top global surgeons don’t claim to 100% remove all tissues and it grows back at different rates with different people. I’m afraid your surgeon wasn’t telling you the truth.

It’s worth looking and reading up on wide excision surgery (edited in line with Endometriosis UK social media policy).

But in the first instance head back to your GP to rule out any other issues xx

Hope you get some answers

Thank you! It was private, through Bupa. I'm not sure what type of surgery, all I know it was a laparoscopy and he cut away the endo.

I'm back under GP. I had a transvaginal ultrasound on Saturday and he just said cannot discuss findings and to speak to GP today.

I had a cervix check last week who advised my cervix is bulky and I have ectropion x

Ok so go back to bupa and find out what the surgeon did, what his skills are.

I’m thinking based on your update they used laser otherwise they would of been able to tell you exactly where they removed the endo from.

You’ll now be subjected to scans, tests that will no doubt all come back clear and you’ll be waiting years again for a solution.

You know it’s endometriosis, it’s potentially regrown it wasn’t fully removed and you’ll need to find a surgeon and specialist endometriosis centre.

I’d you can look online and find a center close to you on this website.

bsge.org.uk/centre/

Tell your GP you want a referral to one of these, and don’t accept general gynaecologist referrals, they will waste time.

Thank you for your reply.

He was an endo specialist and is on the site you mentioned.

I did get told where it was but was a while back now so I cannot remember. I believe my notes say extensive endo / both uterosacral areas on the pouch and uterus.

I remember when I went back for a follow up and he said laser could return but he cut it away which is unlikely to return.

It may just be tiny bits that cannot be removed!

My scan results from Saturday showed I have a retroverted uterus but everything else looked ok. But I know endo can only be diagnosed via a lap anyway.

Ok great I’m pleased to hear you had a good surgeon, like you say it could be back? But are you having the endo pains as well, or just the heavy bleeding.

Might be worth looking at hormone options and getting some balance, not sure if you are taking anything to suppress periods.

As you’re already aware of endo the hormones could be used to reduce your monthly pain while keeping an eye out for any further symptoms.
