Hi All,
Can anyone recommend the best type of counsellor, to listen and advise on the hard topic of children or hysterectomy?
I need to speak it through with someone non biased.
Uk based, norfolk ideally?
Telephone ok, but in person ideal.
Thank you

Hi Cyprus,
It's great to hear you're seeking support - I'm a therapist and have also been working through my endo challenges with my owntherapist for a few months now, and feel it's really helped manage the difficult and dark days.
I work with a creative arts psychotherapist - she has all the skills and qualifications to counsel verbally, but also allows for creative exploration of feelings. I find this combination works best for me, as I find sometimes endo can't be described with words; sometimes paint just needs to be spread across a huge piece of paper!
I'm not local to Norfolk (UK I'm assuming), so checking the BACP register is always a good place to start. And it might be a while before face-to-face sessions become possible, but a lot of mental health folk are moving online for sessions. You'll likely be able to find someone local who can do Zoom sessions to begin with, then in-person when restrictions lift.
The most important thing is finding someone you 'click' with - they don't specifically need experience of this condition, you just need to know in your gut you can trust them. If you don't immediately feel like they're someone you could eventually show your darkest shadows, you're not going to go as deep as you might need to, and that's where you get your money's worth!
Best of luck finding the right professional for you!
X
Hi
My mums a psychotherapist so she always recommends people look at the BACP register, as that way you can ensure you are finding a reputable therapist (as you need to have certain accreditations to be listed on here). Also, if you can, I would recommend trying to find an integrative therapist; as they are trained in all modalities of counselling such as CBT, psychodynamic, humanistic etc. - this way they can help you in a way that best suits you, not restricted to just one way of being trained.
Good luck finding someone x
I’ve been having video sessions with a guy called Courtney King.
He’s excellent and I never thought it would work but slowly it is really helping and changing my ways of thinking. Xx
