Hello, I'm new to all this! Im just looking for some help or guidance from some people..

I have had endometriosis since August 2018 and already had one operation to clear it but now it has come back a lot worse... My gynecologist has arranged for me to be put on the Prostap injection but i am struggling to find anyone to see how it helped them or if it did at all? I really struggle day to day to do anything even getting out of bed now has anyone had any relief from this type of treatment?

Hi, I’ve just had my seventh pro strap injection. I have found it has really helped. I do still get the odd flare up of pain, and recently had about a week where I was sore everyday but I mean sore and not in agonising pain. The pain during the odd flare up is barely anything compared to the pain I was having beforehand. Most of the time the flare ups would be around 3 weeks after the injection and during the week I was due my next, as I would have an injection every 4 weeks.

If I’m completely honest, I’m actually a bit terrified about next month as I won’t be have an injection as I was only prescribed 3 more at my last gynae appointment, and was told to book another gynae appointment 4 months later so I will have a month of uni injection before going back, and I’m worried about how much pain I will be in!

I did really struggle with the symptoms of menopause during the first couple of months but that was due to my body not getting on well with Livial, the HRT I was prescribed alongside the pro strap. That made the menopause symptoms much worse than when I didn’t take them so at my second gynae appointment they switched me to patches but they just wouldn’t stick to my body! I’ve now been prescribed a different HRT tablet and they are working fine.

I wasn’t really told what the symptoms of menopause are, but thankfully the company I was working for at the time hold regular menopause cafes so I was able to meet with someone who has been going through the menopause naturally and when she went through a list of symptons I was saying “yep, had that” and “yeah that too”.

And the other thing I wasn’t told- you can have the injections in your arm, tummy or bum. The first time I had an injection, I wasn’t told that and they injected into my stomach and it did sting and it still felt a little sore the following day. The second time the nurse asked where I wanted it, and I chose the arm- and then could barely move my arm an hour or two later! Just be aware that if injecting into the arm it goes into the muscle so your muscles do seize up and it can be painful to move it for a day or two.

But despite this, I have found it to be really helpful, I am in so much less pain now than I was before. If you ever want to ask anything, please feel free to get in touch.

All the best x

It's mad how many things they don't tell you and then you find out either off someone else or the internet you really do got to fight for yourself! But that's so good of your company to have things like that set up must really help put you at ease!

Thank you so much I really appreciate your response! Definitely put me at ease for my injection today!

Keep safe x

Hi,

So sorry to hear you are struggling this much, it is an awful disease and so hard to treat with all of us being so different.

I started Prostap injections last year & was told eliminate the bleeding eliminate the pain. I was also told I shouldn't start HrT until I noticed a significant difference with the pain. I ended up being on prostap for 11 months, with no HrT and my follow up appointment being pushed back so it was 12 months later, instead of 6. While on Prostap my bleeding eventually stopped (the first 2 months are awful) but I was still getting a lot of pain. After 11 months, and no follow up, I made the decision to stop the Prostap. It seemed like a lot to be putting my body through if I was still experiencing so much pain. I was also told I should avoid pain meds at this time, to see if the injection was working.

Came off Prostap and things got a whole lot worse. Periods came back and I the pain hit even worse.

I went to the Dr's and he gave me another perspective.. Your body is internally battered, bruised and scarred. The Prostap is not to help with the pain. The Prostap is to stop the bleeding and prevent more lesions and scarring from forming. This gives your body time to heal, rather than fight. Some people have the injection for 6 months and find they no longer need treatment, some people will need this long term and may still not recover. That is what makes this so hard to treat and why I'm sure I am not alone in feeling like a Guinea Pig.

I am back on the Prostap and I am also taking Pregabalin. I'm due my 3rd injection next week. Periods stopped after the second injection, pain levels have still been horrendous. I don't remember the last time I had a pain free day. I keep thinking is this worth it, then I remind myself of what the Dr said.. If nothing else I am hopefully giving my body a chance to heal.

Sorry for the long message 😁 I hope that helps and you find some comfort soon ❤️

I did when I was first diagnosed over 5 yrs ago I thought it was brill the menopausal symptoms was hard at times especially the hot and cold flushes but I felt it was a welcomed side effect compared to what I was like before However, theyhave tried me twice with this over a year since I had my lil girl and it's not working at all so i guess it's a case of trail and error I am having heavy periods every 2 weeks now and I also have the coil fitted you could try it for the 1st three months and see how it goes
