Extremely heavy period, what to do?

Hey all. Hope you are all as well as you can be and are all staying safe!

I came on early, and whenever I do I seem to get all of my symptoms pushed up to 11. So I've been really sick, had an extremely bad stomach and a lot of pain.

I've also been very heavy, like I've never been, and I'm usually already quite heavy. I've lost a lot of blood. It's been pretty constant, last night was extremely bad and then this morning too.

Anyway, I was wondering if I should do anything in particular, eat anything or something?

Hey there,

I also bleed very very heavily (have to change my sanitary towel every half hour at times to prevent leaking).

The doctor prescribed me tranexamic acid a few months ago which I have found helps reduce the amount of bleeding. Have you thought about trying this?

I also cut out gluten whilst on my period as I find this helps with my bloading and I also take naproxen. I have also started taking CBD oil which I find helps also xxx

Thank you.

I already have naproxen, but I don't take it around my period as I have mefenadic(sp) acid due to the pain I get.

It's worth asking about the other meds too. I get terrible bloating too and so much water retention, my stomach is flat the rest of the month, then it turns into jelly and you can feel the water around it.

Thankfully it's eased a bit, honestly, I'd feel it, go to the loo, be bleeding into the loo so I could hear it like a tap running, go out, then have to go back in. It was just constant.

Hello if you are heavy bleeding which is a main problem for me, you will need to get your iron levels checked by a nurse. I don’t even know if you can get bloods done right now, only know you can speak to your GP and request medication :)

I eat beef to increase iron, you will probably feel tired due to the amount of blood loss.

I would also note down when your period starts and ends and if they are getting increasingly worse. I can bleed for months on end which is not normal and your doctor would need to know.

A tens machine would help your pain and hot water bottles.

I feel for you as I know what’s it’s like.

Hope it gets a bit better soon for you x 💕

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I had a dinner with a lot of beef tonight, it made me feel a lot better, like the blood was pumping in my chest and more lively. I felt so tired all day before.

I was thinking about the blood testing for iron, I have been low before, my bloods have shown me to be anemic in the past, but not too much recently as I have made sure I had an iron rich diet, but this year my periods are a lot heavier.

I don't think my local clinic are running them, but I'm also not going out as I'm asthmatic and not taking any chances, so I'll just up my iron a bit more and maybe have a half does of my iron tablets.
