I've been on Desogestrel for 3 months now to help with my periods as they're always heavy and I have bad pain (I can't go on the combined pill as I suffer from migraines with aura). I've been getting a period every 2 weeks for the last 3 months. At first I didn't really have much pain so I assumed it was helping but the pains starting to get worse, but still not as bad what I was experiencing before the mini pill. It is still painful and I struggle to get on with my day sometimes. I'm also still heavy. Is this concerning? The doctors I go to just put me on another 3 months due to the covid-19 situation instead of a check up so I was just going to stick it out until my next appointment. Is this anything to be worried about? I'll be able to manage for the next 3 months but I don't want to constantly be having this.

Hi sorry to hear your suffering I’m also on mini pill because my mom has blood clots on lungs and I also suffer migraines. Been on this for 9 years only break was when I had my daughter and I still to this day have HEaVY periods irregularly I bleed more throughout the month then I don’t so don’t really have any answers but your not alone xxx
Hey, I was wondering how you've got on with the pill since your post?
I've just been prescribed the mini pill and am anxious about potential side effects.
I already have very painful and heavy periods that can be irregular so these side effects wouldn't be any worse than what I have now but concerned about other side effects like weight gain, facial hair growth and acne. Did you experience any of these?
Some doctors prescribe Norethisterone also known as norethindrone. To help with with heavy prolonged bleeding. (Alongside the POP ) It stops the period while you are taking the medication once you stop your period will return, it’s used to give you a break the usual course is 10 days and 3 tablets a day, it’s meant to kick start your cycle into normality. Occasionally it’s prescribed long term or short term while waiting for further tests into the heavy periods.
