Re-usable Sanitary Towel Advice

I was just wondering if anyone with Endometriosis (who bleeds heavily) have tried re-usable sanitary towels? I'm trying to be more environmentally friendly and ideally want to move away from disposables. But I'm concerned about how absorbent they will be and it's quite a lot to spend to trial. Any advice or suggestions on brands etc would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi Klea487,

I use period pants, for the same reason like you want to switch. I tried re-usable sanitary towel but I found that a but uncomfortable so bought few pairs of washable period knickers and I love them. My period is quite heavy the first few days but I had no accidents since using them. I would definitely recommend them.

Thank you so much, that's really useful to know. I was looking at them yesterday and deliberating.

Yes I use them. I started about 18mths ago. Prior to this I mostly used a menstrual cup.

2 good bits of advice I read is

1/to try and buy individual ones from places to try first rather than investing all your money in one brand incase they don't work for you. Brands vary in size so some sites have comparison tables and you can read or watch reviews online for tips.

2/ different fabrics absorb differently so although some brands do thinner cotton pads they don't absorb quickly enough for heavy flow. Minky topped ones can be warm to ware. I like the fleece topped ones as they absorb loads! And I have never had one leak!

Personally my favourite brand (I've tried 5 different types) is Charlie Banana. They absorb well, are very comfortable, suit my frame (I'm a size 10 and some brands are too big for me) and they clean up great without staining.

Feel free to ask me any questions you may have! :)

This is so helpful, thank you

It's difficult to know where to start, but I will definitely give them a look. I am looking for Long pads to fit size 12/14. I will take a look at minky topped suggestions online.

Thanks again :)

Minky topped are absorbent but hot to wear. Bamboo, charcoal or synthetic fleece topped are more comfortable.

Earthwise girls (UK) website has a size comparison table so you could measure a disposable that's the right length for your requirements and then see what brands of reusable would be similar :)
