Hi everyone - I wonder if you can offer any guidance? I was diagnosed via MRI/ultrasound with stage 4 endo. I was meant to have surgery last month but obviously it's been delayed. Large bilateral cysts were detected on both occasions, with MRI confirming they're endometriomas.
On my write-up from the gyno about the MRI, it also mentions 'the back of the uterus is thickened' and partially attached to the bowel - I just wondered if this is an endometriosis-related issue or something completely different? I'm kind of confused and wondered if anyone has been through similar? Thanks!

In my case it is related. I was diagnosed with rectovaginal endometriosis a year ago via laparoscopy, i had an MRI initially like you. My uterus and rectum are attached with thickened scar tissue. Couldn't operate at the time and after taking time out to think about it, I have decided to proceed with the op. Just a waiting game at the moment. Hope you are not waiting too long x
Thank you so much for your speedy response! Hope you're also keeping well. The waiting game is pretty dreadful, but it's so great there are so many lovely people able to share their own experiences. Thank you again xx
Anytime. I have had so much information from this site more than I have had from health professionals. I hate saying that but is true. Us girls got to support each other x
Hi sorry to hear that ur surgery has been put on hold, I was diagnosed via laparoscopy and then referred to an endo specialist, I've also had an MRI to see how deep it's gone, I would say yes it is because of endo as I'm the same, just w8in now like everyone else 😔 hope u hear something soon and gd luck xx
I am sorry that you are dealing with this nasty disease. Endometriosis can be everywhere and can cause horrible pain, bleeding and scarring. I have had multiple surgeries and a hysterectomy at 39 yrs. Many times my bladder was stuck to my uterus and both bent down and stuck to bowel. I had what is called a frozen pelvis due to the scarring from endo. I wish more research was being done to find the cause of this debilitating illness. Unfortunately, you will have to surgery to see what’s going on, and hopefully the wait will not be too long.
I think it could very well be endo! I had something similar but excision really helped me clear that up on the day. I hope you’re considering excision and not ablation surgery!
Hi, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Endometriosis by laparoscopy in 2015 December(34y). There was massive bowel and bladder involvement . I had dysmenorrhea 8 days in a month with feeling of bloating and mood swings . They put me on prostap to shut down my ovary and it helped but the postmenopausal symptoms made me crazy . I was very emotional and affected my normal life.
I’m on life long blood thinner Rivaroxaban as I have Factor V Leiden heterozygous ( clotting disorder ) and was told that I couldn’t have HRT after hysterectomy. So I discussed with the CON and decided to preserve one ovary for the hormones but have a hysterectomy. Surgery 04/05/17was successful and I was leading a happy life. I even travelled to Himalayas in Sept2017. Happy times didn’t last long.
I saw brown spotting on my panty liner and rang the clinic worried. Was told it was endometrial residue. Dysmenorrhea was back and I started bleeding with clots and the clinic put me back on prostap. This time the left ovary over had ENDOMETRIOMA ( MRI, CT)with extensive involvement of bowel and bladder to a point where my URETER was compressed.
Plan was to meet Urologist and a stent to be put in place before getting the ovary out But COVID19 had affected the world and it has scrapped all the plans. So I’m back to square one where I’m in severe pain , I load myself with painkillers, some days I hardly could move and I’m fed up of my life. I have 7 year old twin boys who gives me cuddles and a lovely hubby who takes care of me .
So it’s normal to have bladder and bowel involvement . I’m sorry it’s a long one.
Hope that helps !!!!!
Take care. Stay safe .
Stretching exercises helps, cut down on sugar and red meat , cycling and swimming good too.
Hi, l have exactly same, my uterus attached to the bowel. I had laparoscopy few months ago to remove the endo and during the lap, they decided not to touch it as it could damage either organs.
