Mirena moved?

Hi all, hope everyone is coping as much as possible right now!!

Does anyone have experience of their Mirena coil shifting into an odd position and causing constant cramps? Looking for reassurance and/or advice.

I had a Mirena coil inserted on the 24th Feb and have been in near constant agony ever since, with cramps as bad as my worst period. I've passed out from the pain more than once since (but do that once or twice a year with normal endo pain) and ended up in urgent care about 10 days after insertion as well as I found quite a lot of blood in my stool. The urgent care GP decided that the blood was probably just period blood and I was mistaken where it came from (which is possible but I did check pretty thoroughly before calling 111!) but other than that I haven't bled much at all. I was due for a period when the coil was inserted but my cycle is irregular and I'm definitely not pregnant. The urgent care GP checked that the coil was in place and it was, and said that if the pain hadn't calmed down in another week to see my GP.

After another few days it calmed down a little and I had two days on minimal pain relief, but then quite suddenly it started up again and I also started getting random short sharp pains so bad that I gasped/exclaimed and once spilled tea all over my leg from jumping at it. Obviously by this point the COVID-19 situation had escalated to the point GPs have stopped seeing patients face to face and I don't want to bother 111 as I know they're overwhelmed.

Today I'd actually been relatively OK until I was in the shower about an hour ago and checked that I could still feel the tags as I was starting to suspect it might have shifted since I saw the GP and that might be why the pain has come back and changed. I had to feel around a bit but did feel them there - this is my second mirena (but I've had about a year gap between) and they were in a slightly different place than last time.

Since getting out of the shower I've been in absolute agony again, I'm lightheaded and can barely get myself to the bathroom. Does anyone know if that's a sign that the coil is in the wrong place, or would that have happened if it was in the right place and I'd just nudged it slightly when I felt the tags?

Any advice or experiential help anyone can give me is appreciated 🙂

Hi there, absolutely it can move . Mine dropped & enbedded in my womb causing abdo pain & a little bleeding. The strings caused sores internally as they were sat too low.

I had an urgent removal trans- vaginally & another inserted at the same time.

You need an ultrasound to check were it is hun but u sure this will happen anytime soon.

Worth a phone consultation with ur GP a

My friend was suffering similar pain. She thought it was normal with the mirena. But her cramps continued getting worse. When asking her doctor he assured her that it was fine. Finally she went to the doctor and found it moved. Not only did it move they couldn't find the darn thing at first. Needless to say she freaked out. Once they located it she had it removed. And instantly felt a lot better.
